Delivery time limits.
Hello everyone, I need some advice about an item NOT received.
I bought a mouse from an English seller, shipped with Royal Mail (standard, untracked) on March 27.
As of today, 44 days have passed and nobody knows anything about the package; the seller refunded me correctly, but I was wondering whether it makes sense to buy the lost mouse again or whether I should wait a bit longer before, in the end, the mouse arrives and I end up with two: the lost one and the reordered one.
So I was wondering if there is an objectively final time limit for considering a purchase definitively lost by the post office.

·2 years agoI consider the question highly subjective.......... in fact it is the buyer ( so you..... ) who has to decide what to do......
PS: 44 days, tracked shipment or not ( and anyway it's the seller's problem for sending it untracked.... ) , are still a lot from the UK ......

OP2 years agoyes clearly the question is subjective, but precisely because it is subjective I was wondering whether anyone had similar experiences in order to consider 44 days a deadline for declaring the item lost.

·2 years agoI repeat, it depends on you; moreover, the cases of non-arrival can be many and varied....
in my opinion 44 days are too many; moreover, the shipment was sent untracked (as you stated), so in fact you don't even know whether the seller actually shipped it...
personally, if I were in a hurry, I would buy the mouse elsewhere; if the other "lost" mouse then arrives, I would let the seller know that it arrived (obviously - I imagine - well beyond the delivery times they stated.....), and that if they want it back they must pay the return shipping costs ............

·2 years agoI’d also say to go with tracked shipping though... paying the difference, of course, at least that way there’ll be a reasonable certainty that the item will arrive or it’ll be possible to check at what stage it got "lost".

·2 years agoBritish postal services are notoriously reliable, but you have to see what happened when the package was handed over on national territory to the Italian postal service.
For an untracked shipment, especially an international one, it's hard to give an answer; sure, this shipment could still turn up, considering that a regular letter in Italy can take up to 30 days or never arrive at all!!

·2 years agoIf I were you, I’d wait, also because if the mouse does end up arriving, it would be right for you to contact the seller and refund them in turn, at least for the cost of the item, since they’re not at fault and were fair by refunding you immediately and taking on the full loss of the mouse’s value plus the shipping cost.
I’d add that it would be better to avoid buying again with untracked shipping, since you’d very likely end up in the same situation, considering that England is now a non-EU country.

OP2 years agoYes, of course, I was assuming anyway that, upon receiving the item, I would immediately contact the seller to pay back the refunded amount.

OP2 years agoThe time elapsed, as per my first message, is 44 days. My urgency comes from the fact that it is a discontinued type of mouse, impossible to find, and on ebay there are only two sellers with a few pieces available and while waiting for it to arrive I fear that the few remaining pieces here will run out.

·2 years agoI understand, but you should realize that no one can give you a certain answer; at this point only you can assess your priorities and whether to buy another mouse from another seller who will ship it with tracking.
Then if the other one arrives, you keep it (since it's rare, having 1 extra as a spare doesn't hurt) and decide whether or not to refund the first innocent seller, at least partially.
