Scam/stolen content?
Good evening, I make purchases on this platform often, always with good outcomes, but unfortunately this time I had a pretty big problem and I'd like to ask you for advice. A few days ago I bought an item, communications with the seller were regular, all his feedback was positive. Today the package arrives and it's a package in the truest sense of the word because inside I unfortunately didn't receive the item, only paper, not even a trace of the item. I immediately contacted the seller, who clearly told me that he shipped the item and that the courier may have taken it (it seems strange to me honestly and anyway I won't even try contacting the courier because I won't get anything out of it). In any case, after years of purchases this has never happened to me, since the item also has value I would like to ask you for advice on how to proceed? I made the payment through Paypal in 3 installments, only the first one has been paid at the moment. Thank you.

OP2 years agoOk, I've started the return process, it tells me to wait for instructions from the seller (which won't come because, as I said, he turned out to be uncooperative even in contacting the courier he used to ship it) and to wait until next Wednesday; after that date I'll be able to get Ebay involved.

OP2 years agoOk. The seller, on the other hand, told me to contact DHL and doesn’t seem very willing to refund me because he said he shipped it correctly. Unfortunately, the shipment was sent in Germany with DHL Paket; in fact, when I enter the tracking number, the Italian site redirects me to the German one. I found a form to fill out for an item not received or damaged, but apart from the fact that it’s all in German, I also think it can only be sent from Germany. Also, once it arrived in Italy, the shipment was handled by SDA and no longer by DHL, so basically a mess. In any case, it’s strange because the seller has more than 300 feedback ratings, all positive, so he’s pretty reliable, I don’t know, I’ve never had anything like this happen.

·2 years agoNo hassle, if you follow eBay's procedure correctly, the return shipping costs are covered by the seller and you don't have to pay anything upfront.

Even if it’s not the seller’s fault that the contents of the package disappeared, the responsibility falls on him.
As an eBay buyer, you’re protected if you follow the procedure set by eBay and carry it through properly to the end.

OP2 years agoI definitely want to resolve this as soon as possible and get my money back since it’s an important amount, at least for me. Right now the only sure thing is that he received it and I, in return, got a package with some paper inside. I agree that the responsibility falls on him and honestly it also annoyed me because he even accused me of lying, so he was in no way cooperative. Today I’ll do as you advised me; if that doesn’t work out I’ll proceed through Paypal (and thank goodness I paid with Paypal), if even that doesn’t work I’ll go with the last option, which honestly I’d like to avoid, namely filing a report for loss/theft/fraud or whatever it is.

·2 years agoThe fact that, according to you, the seller is a reliable person with a good number of positive feedback, and that the whole thing seemed bizarre to you even though then you specify that during the messaging the seller called you a liar after the shock of seeing the empty package, does not speak very well in favor of this seller. We don’t know the size and value of the item, but if it was small, it could also have been intentionally hidden in the padding. But he would have made that clear to you. And by looking carefully you would have found it. Proceed without delay with the suggested course of action. Reports of loss or theft fill the offices of law enforcement to overflowing. If you want to ease your worry, remember that old little song that in online transactions has come back forcefully and very much up to date: ' the world is a paradise of lies, yours.. and mine. Remember that everything must be covered by the seller.

OP2 years agoIn the meantime, thank you very much for the reply. I should point out though that the seller does not accept returns, but even if they did, what would I return? There’s only the package with some paper inside; the item I bought isn’t there. Maybe it’s better to open a dispute through PayPal?
