Ebay account from private seller to professional seller with change of account holder
Hello everyone,
I'm starting an online sales business (I already have a VAT number) here on eBay too.
I would have the possibility to "take over" an account from someone (a family member) who is registered as a private seller. Is it possible to change the details (account holder and add VAT number) and convert it into an account as a professional seller?

If your family member's account is a purchases-only account registered before the rules change.
If your family member's account is an account registered as a seller before the rules change, and therefore no longer enabled for sales because they need to enter the IBAN and everything else.
There MIGHT be the possibility of changing the name and surname of the account holder to make it match the account holder of the bank account.
Basically, an old account subject to old regulations, to move it over to the new ones.
When I did it in 2021, I remember that you could modify the name and surname of the eBay account holder to make it match the bank account.
Honestly, I can't say today whether it can still be done, most likely not, but you can try to see if it can still be done.
Then if you manage to change the details of this private account to make them match yours, in that case you can make the switch from private to business.

As for the account, it is an account that was first registered more than 15 years ago.
I tried to check and basically it allows you to edit almost all the information, only the tax code and date of birth are not editable, while first name, last name, and all the others are, maybe it allows you to edit the tax code and date of birth after you change first name, last name, and the other info.
The bank account can also be changed by entering another beneficiary, obviously then the account will have to be verified as the owner.
It also allows you to switch from private to professional seller, thus adding the VAT number.
At the moment I haven't tried to make any changes because I will have the ATECO code for online sales added starting in January and until then I can't sell or collect payments, but the account seems editable in almost all its parts.

If you can't, try contacting eBay support to ask whether they can grant you a transfer of the account.

·1 year agoAccounts wouldn’t be transferable, but maybe in the switch to a professional account, since the heading would have to be changed anyway, they could allow it.

OP1 year agoI had already read this section about accounts, however it doesn't address the case I highlighted here in the post, let's wait to see if any user has more precise and reliable information or direct experience on the matter.
