Buyer with suspicious purchasing behavior
Good afternoon
apparently new users like me attract strange situations.
I’m putting up for sale a pair of new branded original glasses, with a full description and detailed photos, at a reasonable price.
A user buys the item with Buy It Now a few hours later (without asking any questions...) with the local pickup option, and so I contact him asking for confirmation that he’s from my city and how he intends to pay, by bank transfer or Paypal. Look at what he replied:
Thanks. Please read the note on my profile and follow the instructions before discussing payment
I’m left puzzled and then go to his profile without seeing any note, just 2 positive feedbacks, and that he’s German too (like my other report just a little while ago), a user since 2019.
Not only has he still not made the payment, but he hasn’t replied since yesterday.
Has anyone else had similar experiences? What do you think?

Unfortunately the web is still far from being a safe place; dangers are around the corner and you can't afford to be caught unprepared.
Sometimes it can happen that a new seller is targeted by less-than-honest users who try to take advantage of the naivety and inexperience of someone who has only recently joined ebay.
The general advice is always to sell and buy following ebay's procedures without providing an email or phone number for external contact outside of ebay, which could compromise the security of the transaction.
As for the rest, sika700 and marioelegio have already said it all.
Kind regards.

OP2 years agoUpdate: a feedback appeared today on the profile of the user in question, which I think speaks for itself:
"he bought two days ago and hasn’t paid
The detailed information about the item is no longer available because the Feedback was left more than 90 days ago."
Even though it looks like feedback from several days ago, it only appeared today, believe me...
Another mystery...
Anyway, I’m taking on board everything you’ve advised me.
Thanks again everyone.

·2 years agoNegative feedback cannot be left for buyers by a seller.
Positive feedback with "negative" content cannot, or rather should not, be left either.
Feedback comments should not, or rather should not, be left after only 2 days, since ebay gives the buyer at least 4 days to arrange payment.
Maybe this seller is also a zero-feedback seller or an inexperienced seller with very little feedback who doesn't really know how to get around the platform.

OP2 years agoAll clear.
The feedback in question, even if not formally allowed, still confirms how he is behaving with me, since he bought and still hasn’t paid nor replied to my last message.
I’ll wait the 4 days, cancel the sale, and report it to Ebay.
For all intents and purposes, he’s blocked my selling options for 4 days....

Of course, that feedback has given you further confirmation.....
Anyway, the item can ALSO be relisted right away without waiting the 4 days.
But normally it’s better to wait and complete a sale rather than risk ending up with two sales for the same item (in case, while waiting for payment, the item is relisted right away and bought by another buyer).
Kind regards.

OP2 years agoGot it, thanks.
Anyway, as expected, the user disappeared and still received another feedback confirming the above
"I haven't received payment and I'm being asked to ship"
I reported it to Ebay.
Thanks everyone for the support.

·2 years agoYou absolutely can’t offer bank transfer, it’s prohibited on eBay.
If they chose local pickup, the buyer can pay in advance through eBay via PayPal or credit card, or cash on delivery (if you accept it). Better to go with advance payment, which saves you pointless no-show appointments.
If they don’t pay, after 4 days, cancel the transaction for unpaid item.

OP2 years agoI'll reply to both.
First of all, thanks for the advice. However, the item stays "stuck" for 4 days, right?
Should I report the user to eBay after the 4 days if they don't get in touch?
sika700
·2 years agoYes and yes... to the respective questions.
Kind regards.

·2 years agoAs already answered in the other open conversation:

forget about it and in 4 days cancel the purchase, indicating non-payment, and you’ll be able to put it back up for sale.
Kind regards.
