Buyer with suspicious behavior
Good morning, I'm new here so please forgive me if I make any mistakes.
I'm writing to report a rather suspicious pattern regarding two items I put up for sale this morning, and both of them have received an offer from a single user for an amount equal to the Buy It Now price (and even that is strange...)
The potential buyer of the items (completely different in every way...) writes to me:
Thanks, I'm interested in this item and would like to buy it to give it to my cousin in Milan. So, before proceeding with payment, I would like you to send more photos of the item to (he gives me a Telegram address) or to my email address (and he gives me the email) this is my Gmail so that I can show the photo to my friend, then I will also give you 30€ for shipping costs. thanks a lot I would appreciate hearing back from you as soon as possible???
As location he says Germany and registered since 2001 with more than 70 100% positive feedback (most of them in German) in the last 12 months.
I read on the forum about similar situations and honestly I don't understand the purpose, but I wouldn't want him, through some twisted mechanism, to ask for a refund of the amount paid (if he pays) or worse, make up that the items are damaged and open a dispute with Ebay.
What do you think?

Unfortunately the web is still far from being a safe place; dangers are around the corner and you can’t afford to be unprepared.
Sometimes it can happen that a new seller is targeted by users with less than honest intentions who try to take advantage of the naivety and inexperience of someone who has only recently joined eBay.
The general advice is always to sell and buy by following eBay procedures without providing email or phone number for external contacts outside eBay that could compromise the safety of the transaction.
As for the rest, sika700 and marioelegio and also cizeta1964 have already said it all 😉

·2 years agoIn general, when they ask you for something to send through channels other than eBay, they do it to get your email so they can start the Nigerian scam. Strange for the kind of items you have for sale, they don’t match the ones usually sought after.
I would also, like Cizeta, recommend leaving it alone.

·2 years agoI agree with the suggestions you received, but... to ease any tension caused
by the proposals from the 'German' seller, I also suggest a small reply to the requests.
Here it is: mein lieber, thanks for your interest. Along with the item and the photos, can I also send you a small promotion reserved for new customers? It’s a matter of a full 10 very useful tools for the kitchen and the home.
I repeat, there are 10 items. I’m waiting for the shipping address, anleona. Once you have the delivery address,
you will send the 'German' buyer a little packet with 10 tailor's pins.

For heavenwelkin, I opened two threads because the dynamics and the users are different, and maybe I’m leaving two separate traces that could be useful to other users.
For vonbalden, your suggestion isn’t bad... He’d deserve it!
For sika700, thanks again for the suggestions.
One final question for everyone: what do you think the motive is? Getting the email so they can then bombard me with scams or “sell” it?

·2 years agoThe email is used to send you fake payment receipts and convince you to ship.
You can find lots of examples on Google of this so-called Nigerian scam.

·2 years agoThe purpose is to have the item shipped without there having been actual payment.
The new and inexperienced seller usually BELIEVES that everything is in order because they don’t know how the platform works, so they tend to trust, also because being on eBay they feel protected and covered regardless of what they do. 😎😎

·2 years agoIn general, the aim is to win the trust of “naive” users by luring them with fake bank receipts that are really well made... I’ve seen some myself and if someone is “inexperienced” they can fall for it very easily.
The final goal, then, is to get the item for free.
