Counterfeit item
I purchased an item, supposedly identical to one I already own, original. It was meant as a gift for a friend. As soon as it arrived I realized it was not original. The differences are significant, obvious, the brand isn’t even written on the box (but of course it is on the item photos and also in the listing) and the item itself, which is electric, smells terribly, so presumably it is also dangerous. I immediately requested a return but discovered that I would have to pay the shipping costs. Seriously? Does anyone know how I can proceed to avoid at least losing money?

·3 years agoThe best solution (in my opinion) is to contact support and ask whether it’s possible to convert the return request into a dispute for item not as described, since only in this case are the return shipping costs borne by the seller (even if private). Go to the Help and contacts section, then proceed through the various submenus.
You an eBay user since 07-Jan-23, you’re new and mistakes happen, but spend a bit of time reading the "Purchases" section; I know it’s boring, but it helps avoid mistakes and problems later on, because they’re not always fixable afterward.

·3 years agoYou shouldn't have opened a return case.
You should have opened a dispute for an item not as described (in this case the return shipping costs are the seller's responsibility).
Unfortunately it is not possible to close a case that has already been opened and started, and then open another one.
It can only be opened once; if you close it because you don't want to pay the return shipping, you will have to keep the item.
In conclusion, since you opened a return case, the return shipping costs are your responsibility.
Best regards.

·3 years agoGo to the financial police and have them seize the goods, then they will issue you a seizure report, then you open a dispute with PayPal and they will refund you, but opening a complaint outside the procedures provided by eBay is never well received by the platform, in my opinion for a few euros of shipping it's not worth playing this card, then you decide.
Who determines that it's a counterfeit item? You? eBay doesn't deal with these things. An expert opinion would be needed.
We should thank eBay for making it possible to return it for free (at the seller's expense) as an item not as described.
You made a mistake by opening the return request, you should have opened a request for return for item not as described.
As a last chance you can try contacting eBay customer support and explain the situation, that it's not a return because you changed your mind, and ask them if it's possible to do anything.

·3 years agoGood morning,
that could be a viable route... but be careful... it could backfire and the GdF could issue him a nice report for negligent purchase!
It would be useful to understand what request he opened, and for what reason... sometimes, it has happened to me that by contacting support, they can change the reason for the return, therefore not conforming to the description, and as everyone knows, the return is at the seller's expense.
Kind regards.
