The seller wrote to me saying they sent the wrong item…
...and he offered to return it and reimburse me the shipping costs. However, the item hasn’t arrived yet, but I can see that among the options the return-related item is already active. What should I do? Should I wait for the package to arrive? And seriously, because of his mistake, I have to take on shipping costs to America? In that case, how would he plan to reimburse me? Sorry, but I’m not familiar with eBay.

OP1 year agoSorry for the delay in replying. First of all, thanks again for the help you’re giving me.
The seller has offered to refund me without me sending back what he shipped, but would that mean doing everything outside of eBay? I’m not familiar with this platform (as you’ve probably already guessed 😂) but I regularly use others and if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that you shouldn’t do anything outside the platform itself. For now I’ve just replied that when the item arrives, we’ll figure out what return options eBay offers us.
I’m wondering: if I were to refuse the package when it arrives, what would happen?

·1 year agoYou would lose any chance of asking for a refund.
If the seller has offered you a refund, it’s up to you to accept it beforehand before the technical time limit expires for it to be issued correctly on eBay, namely 30 days from the sale.
Kind regards.

·1 year agoIf the seller предлагает you to close the dispute in exchange for a refund, don’t accept because if you then close the dispute, you lose the chance to be refunded.
The seller wouldn’t have any problem refunding you directly on eBay without asking for the item back, so if he doesn’t do that, don’t trust him.
Follow the procedures and stick exclusively to those.

Unfortunately, you’ll have to deal with the situation patiently and carefully, since the return procedure from the USA requires the seller to provide you with a return label or pay the shipping costs.
The customs duties issue is not covered in the eBay return procedure, so you need to handle it yourself so that no taxes are charged to the seller, because problems could then arise during the dispute.
If you download the proforma invoice, there is a specific wording for return/reso
https://www.spedirecomodo.it/cms/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Fattura-Proforma.pdf
Once you tick the "return" box, you also need to attach some documentation showing that it is indeed a return.
If everything goes as it should, the seller receives the item without paying anything.
In conclusion, yes, unfortunately because of a mistake by the seller, the buyer unfortunately has to waste time and energy to correctly complete all the procedures to get their money back.
Once you’ve received your money back, you can decide whether it’s worth buying the item again from this seller.
Kind regards

·1 year agoIt might work, but you would be relying solely on the seller’s honesty. If they don’t refund your return shipping costs, you’d have no way to claim them.
I’d recommend waiting for the package to arrive, then requesting a return through ebay. Choose, as the reason, that the item received does not match the description.

At this point, the return is the seller’s responsibility, and they have three working days to send you a prepaid label for the return. If the seller does not take action within the expected time, ask ebay to step in.... https://www.ebay.it/help/buying/returns-items-not-received-refunds-buyers/chiedi-ebay-di-intervenire-acquirenti?id=4701&st=3&pos=1&query=Chiedi%20a%20eBay%20di%20intervenire%20-%20acquirenti&intent=chiedi%20ad&lucenceai=lucenceai&docId=HELP1382

OP1 year agoHi Mario, thanks for the quick and precise reply!
I was reading through the old posts from 2023 that said that when making a return to the USA, you should fill out a form for customs duties and similar things, and that this has to be done very carefully because otherwise you risk having to pay any duties on the product again. Is that still the case as far as you know?

·1 year agoConsidering that lately the USA haven't joined the EU, I'd say you still need to do the pro-forma invoice and the customs declaration...
Anyway, any duties fall on the recipient and not on the sender (unless you make gross compilation errors: in that case, it's the package itself that gets sent back to you... with the related costs...).

·1 year agoFor this reason, it’s important that the seller organize and prepay the return.
Any customs fees, due to errors, would be paid by him when the return arrives.

·1 year agoDon't rush, ask the seller to help you fill out the customs form, after all it will be up to him to choose the courier. You still don't know the description or even the value of the goods that will arrive to you by mistake.
