Scam
After selling a photography kit, I was sent an email signed Ebay (later found out it wasn't ebay).
The purchase on Ebay was confirmed by the buyer.
The email fooled me and I sent him the package.
The payment is still pending because obviously the piece of shit hasn't paid.
Any advice on tracking down the package or how I should proceed with the police report?

·3 years agoeBay is worse shit than scammers, they refund nothing, I’m a victim of it.

·3 years agoIf the item is covered by the eBay customer guarantee and the correct procedures are followed, eBay reimburses.

·3 years agoWhen an item is sold, Ebay sends an initial email: Good news, your item has been sold.
Then below, a nice blue button that says: CHECK THE PAYMENT STATUS.
Then the email continues saying: The buyer has not yet paid. We will remind the buyer to pay within 48 hours and you will receive an update when it is time to ship the item.
Then once payment has been made, a second email arrives: Good news, your item has been paid for.
Honestly, I doubt that a hacker found a way to HACK ebay to send FAKE emails saying payment has been made; otherwise we would have found a multitude of reports on the forum.
In my opinion, this is a BIG OVERSIGHT on the seller's part that cost him DEARLY.
If he still feels like selling on ebay in the future, next time he will certainly be much more careful.

OP3 years agoFor those selling for the first time, the platform is not intuitive at all. On top of that, customer service is absolutely terrible and made me cancel the order, proof of the scam.
Not to mention that this platform offers you no protection whatsoever, which is a disgrace.
I’m not paying the lawyer and I’ll definitely take legal action

·3 years agoEbay can be summed up briefly:
for those who sell, it’s not easy (from what I see on the forum, even from users who consider themselves experts, but who evidently aren’t all that expert ...... ) and so you absolutely have to read the rules first (but this also applies to other things in life....... obviously I’m not referring only to Ebay);
Ebay is evidently tilted in favor of buyers, but this is also dictated by state/EU laws that favor the buyer (and here, for those who sell, that’s something to keep in mind)
as for Ebay support................... well, just read a few forums (not necessarily only the community) to get a general idea of what has happened in recent years, also considering the continuous rule changes or various adjustments..............
then, especially those who are really a bit experienced, draw their own conclusions................
I take this opportunity to wish everyone a Happy 2023 (hoping it won’t actually be worse than recent years, given the “mess” that happened........ )

·3 years agoI just received a payment email outside of Ebay, and clearly I do not send money outside the Paypall system, which protects us. In case of a dispute, Paypall does not pay until the problem is resolved. So not making deals with payments outside the system is the best protection. I personally do not pay outside the system and I do not send money to banks or prepaid cards and the like.
I would like to publicize the whole attempted scam I experienced.
But I don't know how to do it, anyway I'm attaching the attempt made on me....

·3 years agoHow did the potential scammer get your email?
On ebay the emails are encrypted, messages are exchanged through messaging and only ebay knows the users' addresses. Also, we're talking about vehicles here, which are registered goods, you certainly can't make a purchase with reservation. In these cases ebay is just a showcase, then the purchase has to be made in the traditional way.

The graphics of this email have nothing to do with eBay's graphics.
This email surely arrived in the email inbox where usually (if you use the email address a lot for various registrations to various services) all kinds of messages always arrive, both in the spam folder and in the inbox.
So you always have to keep your eyes wide open 👍
