Good morning everyone, I hope this is the right section. I wanted to расска tell what happened to me in order to alert other people and possibly stop or prevent this kind of scam.
On April 1st I check my bank account through the app and see an outgoing payment of €219.12, via direct debit set up in favor of eBay GmbH.
It seems really strange to me and I haven’t sold anything to make invoices that high, or bought anything.
I go to see where a charge like that could have come from, I have no purchases made that day, and there are no transactions from PayPal, eBay, or other sites where I occasionally shop.
I check the seller invoices (I sell about ten items a year, used things or things I bought but want to get rid of)
February: €0
January: €3
All the months before were amounts like this.
I call eBay support, and after three tries and a couple of hours they finally get back to me. The eBay person tells me that if a direct debit was made to eBay GmbH it’s because someone used it as the payment method for eBay invoices; they check my account and tell me it has nothing to do with my account, so either a family member took my IBAN, my documents and my signature and added it to their account, or someone else did it by falsifying my documents to pay their eBay invoices.
I am 100% sure it falls under the second hypothesis, because my family members don’t have eBay accounts, and even if they wanted to they wouldn’t be able to browse the internet on a phone, let alone buy an item, much less set my details up for automatic payment and especially sell about €2200 worth of goods so that an eBay invoice of €219.12 results.
I repeat, the eBay person told me that payment has nothing to do with my account, not even for the March invoice, which they told me would have been issued on April 2-3.
They tell me they can’t give me the account details that set up the automatic debit for privacy reasons, and to report it to the postal police and call the bank, which will sort it out.
So eBay washes its hands of it.
I call the bank and they tell me to request the reversal, and that I should see the money in my account immediately. After two tries the reversal works but I don’t see the money; they say the next day but that’s not what happens.
Now they say next Tuesday, I’ll keep an eye on it.
I’m very doubtful that something that happens automatically would be delayed this long instead.
As for why this debit was approved without my consent, they tell me the fault is eBay’s, which has to verify from whom it takes the money; for them it’s an automatic procedure and it works like that, they don’t have control and they don’t notify or require confirmation from the customer.
It seems absurd to me.
Besides, the 80 cents the bank takes for the direct debit "service" won’t be refunded.
I’m asking here if there’s anything I can check or figure out, if I missed something, and I’d also hope I’m the one who’s wrong, because this is really absurd.

·1 year agoUnfortunately, this is happening to me too,
I haven’t made any sales in the last 6 months (I’m an occasional seller) but I found two charges of a whopping 286 euros from EBAY S.A.R.L. for transactions amounting to zero and for which I received neither invoices nor any other accounting document!!!
I immediately revoked the payment mandate with my bank, a mandate I had not authorized.
Today I’m going to discuss the matter, but I fear I won’t see that money again.
However, I would like to know how it is possible that EBAY customers’ sensitive data ends up so easily in the hands of malicious people.

·1 year agoI’ve been a seller on eBay for years and NEVER... I mean NEVER... has eBay ever dared to make charges without a reason and without warning me first.
You authorized the mandate to eBay when you updated your account by entering your IBAN... it’s always those fine-print bits that nobody reads!
So, I’d check with the help of support to see what it’s about.
Have a nice day.

·1 year agoIt happened to me too on September 17, and I only realized it today, September 20.
On eBay I had linked my BancoPoste account and from the app I couldn't revoke the mandate, so I went to the post office and they explained to me that they can't revoke a non-European mandate, not even they can.
I disconnected all my payment details from eBay (which in turn was linked to PayPal) and I changed the IBAN where the money is received in case of sales to an old IBAN from a closed account (I don't sell on eBay).
I am waiting for updates, hoping that I have put an end to these unauthorized movements.

·1 year agoYou need to understand why you owe money to ebay. Closing the account won't do anything. They will pass the case to a debt collection agency.

·1 year agoThe SEPA direct debit mandate can be revoked at any time.
Let's not create unjustified WORRIES and NONEXISTENT FEARS please.
But the problem is that once you revoke the mandate with ebay, the issue remains open and you have to resolve it by contacting ebay.
Best regards.

·2 years agoGood morning, money was charged to my card and I did not sign up for any subscription. I am requesting an immediate refund, otherwise I will take serious action and file a complaint. I await a response

·2 years agoThe same thing happens to me too, I asked Deutsche Bank to intervene but they told me to contact eBay. I'm trying, but of course there isn't an option to cancel any contract (scam).....
What should we do?

OP5 years agoThe matter has been settled, I was refunded on Monday the 5th (Easter Monday), strange that operations that should be instant are allowed on that day.
I then blocked the debit channel and filed a report against unknown persons for withdrawal of funds from my account without authorization.
This should also help establish that I’m not the one who has to pay that amount, since eBay will want to get that money from someone.
The carabiniere said that most reports of bank scams are made by people who have Intesa Sanpaolo, it’s not a significant fact but I’ll still change banks and be careful to have maximum security.
I hope this doesn’t happen to anyone else, thanks everyone for the help!

·4 years agosorry how did you manage to block the debit channel? how did you manage to revoke eBay's SEPA direct debit mandate? eBay doesn't allow it unless I add another IBAN...
sika700
·4 years agoSimply by contacting your bank; if you have access to online banking, you can do it completely on your own.
Kind regards.

·4 years agoIt's not always that simple to block it through the bank, though, because to protect the creditor in some cases you first need to cancel the requested service (you also have to see what you signed in the mandate); this is precisely to avoid payment suspensions without putting any other alternative payment methods in place, nspecifically, if he doesn't stop selling (and at the moment he has items for sale) he can't do it because he wouldn't receive payments while still having to handle any shipments. Unfortunately it's not as simple as with PayPal, where the problem would solve itself by simply removing the bank account from the wallet.
Good night, given the hour...

·3 years agoOnce you accept the sales terms and enter the bank account, this cannot be removed because with the new terms the account becomes a selling account and a bank account must always be left there for the account to function properly.
All the old accounts from former ebay sellers that have not been updated have gone BACK to being buy-only accounts.
If you no longer intend to use the account (which in the meantime has become a selling account) you have 4 options.
1) You do not accept the new sales terms and leave everything as it is and your ebay account becomes a buy-only account.
2) Open a free e-money card account compatible with ebay and register it on the platform, EVENTUALLY removing your previously registered main account and then leaving the e-money card EMPTY so as to let it DIE, CLOSE, or EXPIRE.
3) Leave everything as it is keeping the old bank account registered and, if anything, remove the direct debit authorization for automatic charges.
4) Start the ebay account closure procedure.
Kind regards.

·3 years agoUnfortunately, yes. Then the abandonment of Paypal made things more difficult, especially for private individuals who have less experience; before, a simple Postepay without any IBAN to link to Paypal was enough.

·2 years agoIt's easier to close your own bank account by transferring the money to another account than to cancel a contract with a gang of automatic thieves. You must absolutely avoid providing your bank account details. Fortunately, when it's empty, there's not much to worry about

·6 months agoCAN YOU TELL ME HOW TO WRITE THIS, I CAN’T EVEN REVOKE THE MANDATE FROM MY POSTEPAY EVOLUTION!!! I got a notification that they’re charging me €46 and something for an eBay account. Com global billing that says I’m subscribed until 2024 and it’s crazy, how do I get rid of this thing?
sika700
·5 years agoI'm sorry about what happened, as they say, "the law was made, the loophole was found"...
The first thing you need to do is cancel or revoke the SEPA Direct Debit that you have active on your account, making sure to note down all the details shown before canceling it.
Report this to the competent authorities with all the details you have noted down...
They will surely be able to ask eBay who was using your account.
Unfortunately this is another red flag that eBay did not take into account, anyone can take an IBAN and enter it as an automatic payment method, there is no check and no document is needed for verification, the procedure only says: "By clicking Save, you accept the billing agreement above. We will deposit €0.01 into your bank account within 1 business day to confirm that the account has been linked to your account."
I hope a moderator reads this and brings this issue to management.
Good luck!
