Buyer with fictitious name in the shipment
I’m a seller who occasionally uses eBay to sell vintage items. Recently I had a “jokester” buyer (but maybe a scammer) who bought an item for a little over €100 and requested shipping to a suspicious street and house number, located right in the historic center of Florence (where anyone living there certainly wouldn’t buy cheap used stuff on eBay) and, to top it off, as the first and last name on the shipment he wrote made-up words that clearly do not correspond to either a first name or a last name. I contacted him in chat to ask him to confirm the address and give me the real first and last name to put on the shipment, but he didn’t reply. Moreover, in the shipping terms and conditions of Poste Italiane - which I typically use to ship items - it also says that “fictitious names or in any case references different from the real names” are not accepted in the “sender” and “recipient” fields.
In your opinion, could this be a scam?

·1 year agoHello,
I’d say the buyer’s behavior is more than suspicious. Expect them to ask eBay to block the payment because, according to them, they haven’t received the package. If I were you, I’d cancel it, giving the reason they suggested.
Good luck

·1 year agoIt can happen that a buyer, out of simple curiosity, signs up to eBay using made-up names and then forgets to correct them when they find something they want to buy.
You did well to contact the buyer to check that they receive the messages and respond to them.
You did everything you had to and could do.
All that’s left is to cancel the sale.
Kind regards.

I recommend blocking the user to avoid future repercussions, even if this measure doesn't really do much since they could easily open a second... third... fourth account, etc.

·1 year agoHello,
you currently have 28 items for sale, so the definition of occasional use is not correct.
If you don't trust the address provided, you can cancel the sale with the reason that it is impossible to ship to the address indicated.
Kind regards.
