Buyer makes an offer, I accept it, they don’t pay, and after almost 2 days they say they bought elsewhere
Good evening,
The title already says a lot, but to be more specific:
- I have an item for sale as a "buy now" listing with the option to send purchase offers
- a buyer sends me a message offering a price €5 below the minimum accepted for offers
- I decide to meet them halfway, modify the listing to allow offers for the agreed amount, and write to them saying to make the offer and that I will gladly accept it
- they send the offer as agreed and, in turn, as agreed, I accept
- a day and a half passes while I wait for payment (it's the weekend, so that's fine and I'm not in a rush)
- Out of the blue, they write to me saying that after all of the above, they bought the same item elsewhere, which is why they still haven't paid and therefore won't pay, since they're no longer interested now.
Leaving aside the fact that it seems to me like a dishonest way of acting and only meant to waste people's time, in cases like this what's the best way to handle it?
- cancel the sale indicating it was requested by the buyer?
- wait the 4 days and cancel for non-payment?
- another option I don't know about?
Obviously, I'm fine with cancelling the sale, but at the same time I'd like to follow the proper procedure so as not to affect my seller status and, if possible, at least report the buyer's improper behavior.
If it had been a mistake, if they had had a problem or anything else, I would have met them halfway without thinking twice, but committing to the purchase and then saying they bought elsewhere is not the same thing.
I also don't understand why they bought elsewhere given that I gave them the price they asked for.
P.S. I replied to them asking for confirmation that they did not want to proceed with payment, since from my point of view they had committed to the purchase, but so far I haven't received a reply.
Thanks to anyone who can give me some advice

·1 year agoOk but you can't post those feedback comments to buyers for at least 2 reasons
1) you can't post positive feedback from negative content by adding those emoticons to make it stand out better (at the buyer's request eBay would remove them right away"
2) you wouldn't even be able to write "avoid like the plague" in a negative feedback.
Then a buyer who usually buys items and doesn't pay for them gets their eBay account use restricted.
Best regards.

·2 years agoGood morning
As sika700 has already written to you, all you can do is cancel.
You can also consider the option of doing auctions with Buy It Now and immediate payment.
In this case, you will decide whether to cancel and refund the payment or ship.
Kind regards.

The choice is yours.
In any case, you can report the buyer (almost zero value...):
