UK purchases
Hello, as per the title, I bought an item from England for which I paid VAT through eBay.
Now how does it work with customs? I mean, since I already paid VAT to buy it, on what basis should they apply it again at customs? How can I avoid this?

In any case, there’s no duty, but VAT and customs charges (customs clearance fees) still have to be paid.
If you’ve already paid the VAT on the transaction and they ask you for it again upon delivery, have them issue you a receipt so you can proceed with the refund (see above).

·2 years agoHello,
there are dozens of similar conversations on the forum about this issue... let’s try rewriting it again...
When you import from a non-EU country, you have four charges to pay:
So, yes, expect to pay more on delivery, which obviously won’t be VAT.
In any case, make sure you get a receipt, and if you notice that you have paid VAT again, along with the other charges, you can request a refund of the VAT only from eBay.
Best regards.

·2 years agoIt's not necessarily the case that you'll have to pay anything upon delivery of the package.
But let's say you might have to pay something again or even pay VAT again (it doesn't happen often but sometimes it does happen), so be prepared for any eventuality.
The package should always be collected and never refused; if you're charged VAT twice, don't worry because through eBay there's a specific procedure to recover any double payments.
Keep in mind that if the postman rings asking for money in exchange for the package, he won't give you any payment receipt.
In this case you'll have to tell the postman that you don't have any cash with you and to kindly leave the package in storage for you.
In this case the postman gives you the "receipt" you need to go and pick up the package at the post office.
At the post office, pay with an electronic payment so you'll have a record of the payment.
Kind regards.

·6 months agoHello, among the 4 factors to keep in mind, what amount is charged?
In my specific case:
Purchase of goods for 29 euros
Shipping costs 14 euros
Sold by a duly registered company
I am a private individual
Below 39 pounds should I be fine or not?
Thanks
