SPONSORSHIP RULES UPDATE 20/06
Summary: The discussion concerns the sponsorship rules update scheduled for 20/06, but the specific details of the responses and contributions are not included.
hi,
I received an official communication from eBay
"Starting June 24, for sponsored items with a general strategy, the following attribution definition will be used to calculate sales and advertising fees: a sale will be attributed when a buyer purchases the sponsored item within 30 days of clicking the ad, even if the click was not made by the same buyer who completed the purchase."
Does any seller who uses sponsorship have a comment to make regarding this update?
Thanks

OP1 year agonow I can verify for sure 😉 when in reality there’s nothing left to verify...
you can only verify that the click was made within 30 days of the purchase

·1 year agoExactly, but in the one that favors the users there's greater transparency, now you can check.

OP1 year agoyeah sure, but if we question the correctness of eBay's click/payment analysis then we can avoid any discussion
ortofantastico
·1 year agothen anyway even before, you couldn't know whether the buyer had clicked or someone else had, since you don't have the list of who clicks

·1 year ago.. unlike when they tell you: "raise everything, including energy costs, and so we have to increase the percentage" (but if everything goes up while keeping the percentage fixed, you're already marking it up because it's on a higher price and therefore higher)
..at least now they don't beat around the bush.

OP1 year agothanks for sharing your thought, mine was a broader discussion anyway, I'm not complaining specifically about my situation
more generally, it seems to me that there are only updates for eBay's own gain
while very rarely there are advantages (financial or otherwise) aimed at sellers
(let's leave buyers out of the discussion)

·1 year agomaybe DON'T use sponsored listings, which ( maybe.... ) can be useful for professional sellers, but not for private sellers.....

·1 year agoit's a matter of opinion..... in my view, assuming that a private seller shouldn't sell material as new ( a topic already brought up several times on the forum, and so I won't go back over it....... ) , frankly, resorting to sponsored listings to get visibility against the professionals, to then sell some cables for a few euros shipping included ( with the risk of untracked 4th-class mail ) , seems like suicide..... then everyone is free to do as they want....

·1 year agoI went to check in the specific case.....
If we write 8k hdmi cable and set price and cheapest shipping first in the results, Tony Montana's listing appears right away.......
In this specific case, therefore, analyzing the price issue, there is no need to sponsor because buyers often and willingly also use the best price filter.......

What changes in the attribution of sponsored sales starting June 24?
Currently, eBay attributes a sale to a sponsored ad if:
- The buyer who clicks on the ad is the same one who completes the purchase within 30 days.
Starting June 24, 2024, the rule becomes broader:
- A sale will be attributed if someone clicks on the sponsored ad and, within 30 days, another user (even different from the one who clicked) buys the same item.
Practical examples to understand the difference
Old system (until 06/23/2024):
John clicks on a sponsored ad for an iPhone.
If John buys the iPhone within 30 days, the sale is attributed to the sponsorship.
If Paul (John's friend) buys the same iPhone, it does NOT count as a sponsored sale.
New system (from 06/24/2024):
John clicks on the sponsored ad for the same iPhone.
If Paul (who never clicked) buys the iPhone within 30 days, the sale is still attributed to the sponsorship, even if Paul did not interact directly with the ad.
Best regards

·1 year agoThe moral of the story is, with the update, on eBay you always pay for the sponsored listing!
As usual... good job eBay! 😂
Kind regards.

OP1 year agowell, it seems to me that the moral of the story is this too...
I get it, honestly, but never give a bit to both sides?
that is, never a benefit for the user, who in any case always pays?
I'm skeptical, rebuttals welcome

·1 year agoA private seller who sells used items these days doesn't have all that competition to justify a sponsorship.
There is the search filter with the "used" option and also the "private seller" filter .
But you, as a private seller, also sell new items in quantity and you need to be found in searches because there are several other professionals who sell the same items as you.
