Auction canceled after the award.

Hello. An dishonest seller canceled the sale after the auction ended, because he says he didn’t want to part with the item for sentimental reasons. In my opinion that is a complete lie; I think he lied only because the auction had ended with very few participants and at a low price. Is it acceptable that the seller was able to avoid selling the item by lying? Thanks

We can’t prove it, but there’s a good chance the seller gave up on selling the item because the price was too low.

Yes, a seller can decide not to complete a sale for any reason, but risks receiving a warning and also negative feedback.

Just as a buyer can decide not to pay and cancel an auction they previously won, a seller can decide to do the same.
Both will receive a warning (especially if they are "serial cancelers"): this is what eBay's rules provide.
