Be careful when linking the bank account!
Summary: The discussion concerns the need for caution when linking a bank account. Despite the lack of detailed text content, it is clear that the main focus is the importance of security in this context.
I was an eBay user only as a buyer, I decided to sell some things but always in a non-professional way.
To be able to sell, a link with the IBAN is required, which I regularly set up.
Once the sales were over, I wanted to remove the IBAN from my account since it was no longer needed, but I got a surprise I would never have expected.
The IBAN can be added, with the relative activation of automatic debits, but it cannot be removed!
The only way to remove it is to completely close your eBay account!
I find this to be a serious shortcoming on eBay's part, and it is good for users to be aware of it.
It should be a sacrosanct right to be able to activate services on your IBAN and, likewise, remove them once they are no longer needed.
For a normal user who occasionally needs to sell an item or two, this is a policy that, in my opinion, seriously infringes their rights.

·6 months agoWELL BUT WHAT DOES IBAN HAVE TO DO WITH IT, IT'S FOR INCOMING PAYMENTS, NOT OUTGOING ONES, FOR OUTGOING YOU NEED THE DETAILS OF A CARD
heavenwelkin
·6 months agoThe IBAN entered on eBay must be authorized / enabled ALSO for withdrawing funds.
Authorization and verification are done through authorizations and micro-deposits.

·6 months agoHi, thanks for clearing up a doubt for me.
I also wanted to sell a couple of things, but when I tried to connect the current account, the bank app opened and I didn’t trust it.(THEN IF YOU TELL ME THAT IT CAN’T BE REMOVED ANYMORE...)
I DIDN’T DO ANYTHING, I’D RATHER SELL ON SUBITO.
THANKS AGAIN.

·6 months agoThese days I’d also tell you to avoid entering a main current account where significant amounts may eventually pass through.
Mostly because nowadays everything is automated and updates and related BUGS / errors can never be ruled out a priori.
And customer support currently can’t solve all issues directly....
Now in several circumstances you need the supervisor or the relevant department.
A secondary account that doesn’t receive pension or salary credits would be better, just so you know.
Kind regards.

·1 year agoI also tried to be a seller after a long time but the less the bank details are shared, the better, especially for small sales! I'll try a different way, maybe with a rechargeable card that has an IBAN so I can link that, or more simply I won't sell on eBay anymore.

·1 year agoEbay sucks, it's a den of damned scammers, watch out people. don't use it. I sold an item, created a label through ebay's lousy service, fine. item wasn't delivered, I tried to do everything I could to get it delivered but nothing, meanwhile the buyer opens a dispute for a package not arrived, FINE, I contact ebay and they tell me not to worry that the mistake doesn't depend on you (seller) after a few days dispute closed in favor of the buyer..... but, what a joke guys.

·1 year agoThe same thing can happen on other marketplaces... ebay doesn't ship anything... ebay only recommended an external shipping service to you, namely Packlink, which as is well known is not a great service.
Anyway, after this complaint of yours, I see that you're still active on ebay... so?
Have a nice day.
heavenwelkin
·1 year agoIf you ship a package and it isn't delivered because of an address error or because the courier didn't find anyone, it goes into storage and after a couple of weeks it gets returned to you.
From what you wrote, it's not clear whether the package was lost.
If you purchased a shipment on packlink ebay following the procedures, you are entitled to compensation of 35 euros on poste and brt and 75 euros on ups.
If you insured the goods, then you are entitled to a refund for the insured amount.
Let us know what happened and how you handled the situation because ebay does not protect you if the package is lost, but packlink does.
Did you open a proper support ticket with packlink?
Best regards.

·1 year agoJust a little while ago, after years of only buying, I wanted to try selling on the site but they were forcing me to enter the IBAN for sales payouts, I thought PayPal would be enough, so long, so very long... I'll keep buying, that's better!!

·1 year ago...and not only that...
Besides the IBAN, they'll also ask for your tax details (tax ID) for DAC7.
Anyway, they also ask for those from you on Subito, Vinted, etc. (although for now, only if you exceed the thresholds of the aforementioned DAC7).

·1 year agoPaypal is basically an email address or a phone number.
How would eBay know that your Paypal account pinco.pallino.venditore@mailg.ti corresponds exactly to the eBay account holder?
For tax reasons, there needs to be an exact match between the person selling on eBay and the person receiving the money from the sales, who must always be the same tax code.
Soon enough, all marketplaces that offer remote purchases with electronic payments will have to have a system similar to the one eBay uses.
eBay simply got ahead of the curve.
Best regards.

·1 year agoThe problem is something else, it’s the ability to delete your IBAN whenever you want and freely without any constraints.

·1 year agoIt's not that simple: if someone pays by credit card, eBay is exposed to a chargeback for a period of 13 months and therefore prefers not to lose contact with the seller's account.
Today there are some new developments and the account can be released by making a request to the bank; not all banks have yet adopted this possibility .....
(from https://www.dirittodelrisparmio.it/2024/02/18/revocabilita-mandato-sepa/)
Note to ABF, Milan Panel, 22 November 2023, no. 11379.
The SEPA mandate does not have the same civil-law and circulation protection as a typical negotiable instrument, and its revocability seems to be allowed by art. 17, paragraph 3, Legislative Decree no. 11/2010: “In the case of direct debit and without prejudice to refund rights, the payer may revoke the payment order no later than the end of the business day preceding the agreed day for debiting the funds. The payer's payment service provider shall promptly notify the payee's payment service provider of the revocation, where the methods and timing of carrying out the revocation allow it”.

·1 year agoI think the selling of items remotely through financial intermediaries and sales intermediaries is being taken a bit too LIGHTLY.
Maybe it's because of how easy it is to install apps on a smartphone that one has the illusion that everything is so simple, quick, convenient, and without constraints......

·1 year agoGiving the IBAN means only being able to receive incoming payments.
If you’ve given full access to the account, even for outgoing payments, you can still disable the permission from the bank app so that for eBay it would remain valid only for crediting you the money from sales.

·1 year agoIt’s not that simple.
Some banks have stuck with the Bank of Italy’s 2017 text: (https://www.bancaditalia.it/compiti/sispaga-mercati/sepa/faq-sepa/faq-sepa.html?dotcache=refresh#faq8761-39)
How can a consumer revoke a SEPA direct debit mandate?
According to the guidance in the SDD Rulebook, if the debtor wishes to revoke the SEPA direct debit mandate, they must contact the beneficiary counterparty, unless otherwise agreed between the parties.
and they have not updated to this note from the Banking and Financial Ombudsman (from https://www.dirittodelrisparmio.it/2024/02/18/revocabilita-mandato-sepa/)

·2 years agoGood evening, I completely agree with you. Your comment was very helpful and it is quite concerning, in my opinion, that this is not explained clearly by eBay. I am also quite demoralized by the fact that, as a seller, it is not possible to add PayPal as a payment method...
Anonymous User
·3 years agoFnculo Ebay!!! There’s Paypal, I’d say that’s more than enough!!! Why do I say this?? Because Paypal already has an IBAN linked to it (in my case), so screw Ebay! If I have to close the account, I’ll close it no problem since I can find everything on other online selling platforms too! Same for selling.
heavenwelkin
·3 years agoA stance like yours definitely doesn’t go unnoticed...... are we sure the problem was Paypal? I see you haven’t sold anything since that last negative feedback.....
In any case
Before, on ebay you couldn’t sell if you didn’t have Paypal, but in 2020 this happened:
From 2020 to 2021 this was happening on ebay:
Seller sells a laptop for 2000 euros, Paypal withholds 3.4% in fees = 68 euros.
The buyer immediately realizes they bought the wrong product and asks for a refund.
The seller processes the payment reversal and instead of 2000 euros ends up with 1932 euros in the account.
Paypal has kept the sales fees as per the new rules and does not return them.
And this still happens today on Paypal.
Kind regards.
sika700
·3 years agoBecause you have the foggiest idea of the changes that are also underway at Paypal... and you haven’t understood that nothing at all has changed for the buyer!
Enjoy the rest... elsewhere!

·3 years agoYes, but on PayPal you can link a rechargeable PostePay card that is totally separate from your checking account, and that’s important, because if I have to put my checking account online on eBay, I might not like that and it could also be dangerous
sika700
·3 years agoDangerous?
Certainly no more dangerous than Paypal or a perfectly normal credit card...
Have a nice day.
heavenwelkin
·3 years agoYou can always have a Postepay Evolution and/or a rechargeable account card that you use linked to your eBay account only to receive bank transfers and that you promptly empty when you receive the payments.
In that case, anyone who got hold of the card or account details would be able to do very little with them because it would have no credit to spend.
Kind regards.

·1 year agoI read about the issue related to the current account and the impossibility of removing it at will. I read that it’s not possible to link PayPal...the moral of the story? I was putting a pair of used skis up for sale. Well, I’ll turn to another platform. I thank those who highlighted the issue.
heavenwelkin
·1 year agoIt’s not a "problem" but simply eBay’s rules for listing items that need to be read before selling on eBay, rather than opening an account first and only later finding out that PayPal can’t be added to receive payments.
As a seller with PayPal, you would have the exact same problems in the event of items that don’t match the description, so little or nothing would change from the point of view of the risk associated with selling.
Another issue:
THAT SAID, by law all online platforms are required to RETAIN PERSONAL DATA, so even if you wanted to close the account you couldn’t have your data deleted for TOT years.
So the bank account cannot be REMOVED, but neither can the first and last name once entered; they cannot be removed or changed to another name.
If, in order to open an account as a seller, the IBAN field is required, it’s normal that you then can’t remove it because at that point you would have to do 2 things:
A) enter another IBAN registered in your name, perhaps one of the many prepaid account cards.
B) close the account, in which case the bank-account problem would be solved.
Kind regards.
sika700
·4 years agoIt is sufficient to cancel the direct debit mandate on your current account; if you have home banking, you can do it easily.
In this way it will not be able to withdraw anything, and with just the eBay IBAN it will only be able to make transfers to you, never withdrawals.
Kind regards.

OP4 years agoThanks for the info, but it seems, at least from my home banking, that it can't be done.
I'll try going directly to the bank.
Still, the fact remains that it should be a simpler procedure and made available directly by ebay.
I can register an IBAN but not remove it?
Pretty unfair, in my opinion.

·2 years agoDoes it work like this with Mediolanum too? I'm asking because by mistake I accepted a return request. So do I need to contact the bank to find out if there's a direct debit? When would I have ever authorized it?
marioelegio
·2 years agoNot all direct debits can be revoked without the beneficiary's approval; it depends on what kind of agreement you signed with ebay.
If it's possible to do it, you can do it from here:
https://comunicazioni.bancamediolanum.it/RevocaDomiciliazioni#:~:text=Desideri%20revocare%20una%20domiciliazione%3F&text=accedi%20all'area%20riservata%20e,%C3%88%20facile%20e%20veloce!

·2 years agoI accepted a refund request by mistake, so do I need to contact the bank and ask them to remove the direct debits? When would I ever have given authorization like that?
vonbalden
·4 years agoIt’s true. Even though on your account there is the option to delete the bank account associated with the
payment method, by pressing 'delete' the bank account previously entered is not deleted. You can
delete the bank account and the associated card only after entering a new bank account.
So it is not possible to cancel the incoming payment procedure unless you continue with an alternative
account. Aside from the fact that the word 'sell' for various reasons has today become a euphemism,
in any case that’s how it is. If you want to buy, everything becomes easy, but that is already known.
