How do I report obviously fake items?
Summary: The discussion is about how to report fake items. Several participants, including ortofantastico, marioelegio, and others, interact briefly but do not provide detailed content. There seems to be a shared interest in this topic, but the conversation does not continue in depth.
Good evening, I can’t report items that are obviously fake, I click on the “?” but it won’t let me fill in the 1,000-character field where I can give details 😞
does anyone know how to do it?
thanks

OP1 year agoit could be, but this morning I made a sale here https://www.ebay.it/itm/355851980018 .. once you get in, besides the sci-fi cover photo there are then the product photos, what I was trying to do was get a click on an image that piques curiosity, then once inside there are the details.. I don't know, I need to let about 15 days pass so I can assess it, if anything I'll go back 🙂

OP1 year agoYes, in fact I think so too, they don't work very well because they're too surreal, oh well I put them up anyway and I'm going to see what happens, it's the advantage of being a private seller, it doesn't make much difference to you whether you sell or not 🙂 ... then 200 km from here I had brought "celestino e celestina" basically one of those collections of plastic characters that came out weekly with a magazine, representing a farm with all the characters.. I think as soon as I get them back I'll take photos with the real objects in that setting 🙂

·1 year agoBut more than anything, those are fake photos, sure, you sell seeds but this stuff is what you see on aliexpress, where seed sellers show tomatoes that you could literally hold in your arms because they’re so big...
Then for heaven’s sake, I know nothing about seeds, if you show me a cherry tomato seed or one from another variety I’d never recognize them, but with those mockery photos I wouldn’t buy from that seller...

·1 year agoWith photos like that, I would report the listings as misleading... just saying...

OP1 year agoI was following vonbalden’s advice on the photos. To add my face to the fruit I sell, to use more of the context of where they’re grown, to put the words orti urbani torino, etc.. ... I’m getting things like the ones I’m attaching. What do you think? advice and criticism are welcome 🙂

·1 year agoMaybe ortiurbanitorino is hiding something from us? Obviously caution and discretion are recommended in a public forum, but.. something doesn’t add up. I don’t understand how photos like this suddenly appear out of nowhere, even if the user’s emblem is a cosmonaut. Could ortiurbanitorino have been part of the Apollo 11 mission to the moon and a friend of mission commander N. Armstrong? That would explain the flood of photos with cosmonauts who, against an uneven background, offer products of earthly agriculture. It’s still better to specify that I meant a photo taken by a relative or friend, who captures me in close-up on my farmland in the company of the best vegetables. I have to make the sign from scratch, sticking it into the ground with the wording I like. Then I pose, and the acquaintance takes the photo. Or I set up the little scene live and leave the shot to a remote timer. Then I download the stills from the faithful Nikon (everyone has their favorite camera) onto the PC. I check them, and the most successful ones will serve to transfer as-is into the field for the listing images that the platform provides for posting the ad. Is everything clear? And now let’s wait to share the beautiful vegetables with the sunset at our backs!

·1 year agoYes, he hid the keywords he used with the artificial intelligence program to create such evocative images.
Maybe he wants to be part of the project to colonize (terraform) Mars.

·1 year agopropose them to Musk when he arrives on Mars.....
seriously, it goes from one extreme to the other: in short, too elaborate images that in the end, in my opinion, don’t reflect the item you’re selling..... better to take real photos ....

OP1 year agothanks for the advice on the photos, btw I was referring to fake ads for example: "Selling my mule's puppies, just born" But mules are sterile hybrids (crosses between horses and donkeys and they can't have puppies..) stuff like that basically "donkeys with wings" etc.. 🙂

·1 year agowell, if you're thanking on behalf of another account (which is anyway about photos), the more experienced people on the forum probably won't miss the logical conclusion......
anyway, in this case too, what was written for the photos more or less applies:
reporting it to Ebay, in these cases, doesn't help much ( unless, I repeat, there are numerous reports from various users relating to the same account....... and anyway you still don't know what happens to the report )
I'll add: if one had to report all the "suspicious" or non-compliant listings........ let's just say that would easily fill the day
anyway, the procedure for reporting exists.....then everyone handles it as they see fit.....

·1 year agoNo suggestions were given regarding this because it is absolutely forbidden to sell live animals on the platform. Violations result in immediate legal action by the site. The only exceptions concern fishing worms, crustaceans for food consumption, which must meet certain sizes that can be checked on the site under help and contacts. And a few other small exceptions regarding eggs. I can’t even, with a wild imagination, think of finding for sale a dressage Arabian horse and its foals, or any other living creature. It’s true that we are in the antechamber of chaos, but in any case a report will be taken into consideration immediately by customer support.

·1 year agoI reported stolen photos from me several times, but eBay did nothing.....
I also wrote to the person who had used them, but they didn’t even reply to me

·1 year agoOffer products of the earth, some special ones. No point wasting time looking for immediate feedback
on a huge platform like this, with activity and users in every part of the globe. It's better to act smart, and I'll tell you how. Instead of taking a close-up of the peas, the corn cobs, the prized oats that come from Scotland or Ireland (for example), personalize and multiply users' interest while keeping the copiers well away. Photograph the grains with your smiling face next to them. Take the shot while one hand holds the beautiful cob open in the palm, leaving a little glimpse of rustic background, maybe with the sun setting behind you. The emotional engagement of whoever is looking goes through the roof. And no one would dare copy a photo like that. If there also appears a little sign stuck in the ground with your avatar written on it in a garden style, no one will even give you the time of day, not even for a fee. Scout's honor. Best regards.

·1 year agoin short: as Vonbalden indicated, it’s better to "personalize" the photo, to avoid unauthorized "duplications" ;
reporting it to Ebay, in these cases, is practically useless ( unless there are numerous reports from various users related to the same account.......) not to mention that later you won’t get any news about your report ( see privacy ) : then everyone is free to make the report anyway...
so, in the end.....prevention is better than cure......

·1 year agoMany of my photos are used on aliexpress with a rectangular cutout in copper green right where my eBay logo / nickname is. 😎
On ebay instead they use the photos directly with my nickname logo clearly visible.
Anyway they even copy the listing content without even reading it 😀
If your photos are GENERIC and do not contain any watermark or distinctive sign and/or particular creative element that can clearly prove they are your works, in my opinion it will be hard to get them to listen.
If you have inserted a distinctive sign in the photos you can make a certainly more forceful report, but it is not said that this is enough.
Good luck.

OP1 year agoyes, I was able to make some reports, but you can’t enter the description, I had to attach a PDF.

·1 year agoMaybe the closest thing is to go to the item listing:

OP1 year agoSo to report the fakes I first have to buy them, then open a dispute, and ask, in addition to a refund: the removal of the fake item from the platform; access to records to get the seller's details and turn to the competent authorities? Honestly, I would prefer some involvement from eBay.

·1 year agoI'm not sure it's still possible..... since in the past competing sellers used to report each other.....
Just imagine a seller who draws some hostility on the forum......

But in general they follow reports from those harmed by the fake: buyers and holders of the sales rights to the originals.
