Good morning,

I would like to buy an item from Japan for €520. The seller offers free shipping.

Could someone help me calculate the costs I would have to pay when receiving the goods?

As for customs duties, it depends on the goods you need to import.

The average rate is 4%, but it can go up to 20% if you import, for example, certain types of musical instruments.

That said, anyone importing should be aware of and up to date on all related charges, so here’s a summary of the customs fees currently in effect.
- VAT on the declared value (d.v.) including shipping (22%)

- Duties (for goods with a d.v. over €150

- Customs charges (or clearance fees) vary depending on the carrier used and the item’s d.v. (from just a few euros with Poste to over 25 with UPS, FedEx, etc.).
