Import issue from the USA - VAT and duties paid?
Summary: The discussion revolves around concerns and questions about importing goods from the USA, specifically regarding the payment of VAT and customs duties. Participants are seeking clarification on these importation costs.
Hi, I made my first purchase outside the EU, specifically in the USA.
The seller, professional, with many sales and feedback, uses eBay's international shipping service. As a result, I expect that VAT and duties etc. are paid at checkout and that, upon receiving the goods, there will be no surprises..
As you can see from the attached image, VAT is added at checkout, but for Duties the amount is "0".
What does it mean? Are the duties included in the VAT? Or will I have to pay those separately?
Thank you in advance.
Regards
Fausto

·1 year agoGood morning, I’d like to know whether in the end what eBay wrote was respected or whether other fees were paid upon delivery?

·1 year agoI would also like to know whether eBay's total price is correct or whether other customs fees have to be paid.
When buying, for example, from England, import fees are also included in the payment; from the USA or Japan, this fee does not appear to be specified to me

·1 year agoIt depends on the total amount.
For amounts under 150 euros (item + shipping), VAT is collected directly by eBay and there is no duty.
For amounts over 150 euros, it depends on the origin.
In the UK and US there are shipping programs with couriers that calculate everything in advance and you pay everything together (it is specified in the listing) on eBay's payment page. Otherwise you pay the courier upon delivery.
Not necessarily, you can't make a general rule from your single experience.
If you go over 150 euros and if the seller does not ship using the GSP program, you will still pay duties, VAT and fees upon delivery.

·1 year agoProbably the item you bought, according to the carrier handling the international shipping service, is not subject to duties.
You can check it yourself here too (Taric register on the customs agency website), first find the code and then enter the country of origin .... https://aidaonline7.adm.gov.it/nsitaricinternet/TaricServlet
If customs has a different opinion, they will ask you for the duty separately.

OP1 year agoFirst of all, thanks for the reply. The item I bought is an Audio/Video component, a surround amplifier.. from what I know, it seems the duty is only 4/5%.. I don't understand why he didn't include it in the sale. I tried writing to him and he confirmed that what I see/pay is already all-inclusive..
But seeing zero on the duties makes me suspicious.. Given the value, the duty would be about €100.. not insignificant..

·1 year agoThe VAT is correct (22% of the amount item+shipping), so the duty was considered to be zero. The courier fees are included in the shipping cost.
Can the item be described as one of these?
If it were one of these, the duty would be 3.7%
Take it like this: if they're right, you've saved 100 euros; if your doubts are confirmed, you'll pay them on delivery.

OP1 year agoHopefully it won’t be considered.. that they trust the seller 😁 a bit of luck every now and then..
anyway I think that the Taric code is 8518500090. Not much changes, I think it’s 4%..
Thanks for the replies!
