Seller warranty after private sale
Good morning,
I would like to sell a private individual an iPad that I bought 2 months ago from MediaWorld, so the product is still under warranty, and the receipt shows my details (first name, last name, address, etc...).
If I sell the iPad to a private individual (through online platforms, like eBay), and let's say that 4 months from now it turns out the product has defects, can my buyer, who bought the product from me through eBay, claim the MediaWorld warranty, that is, the first seller's warranty? Even if the receipt shows my details? Logically I should give the receipt to the buyer.
Would a scan be okay in this case too?
Thanks.

·3 years agoMario has already given you the answers; I’ll just tell you that this type of item is often subject to scam attempts, so beyond the personal luck of coming across 1 honest buyer, I’d advise you to try selling the item on an online platform where you only post the listing, then complete the sale by meeting the buyer and taking cash payment, also because for payments through services like Pyapal outside of eBay you’d be at even greater risk since you’d have no way to assess the buyer through feedback history and how long they’ve been on the platform. Obviously, for an in-person sale you should go with at least 2 people and meet in central, crowded places given the type of item. Bye bye.

·3 years agoThe legal warranty (the 24-month one from Mediaword) is a contract between seller and buyer and is not transferable with the sale. The manufacturer's commercial warranty is transferable instead (for Apple products, the 12-month one to be claimed directly with Apple). As the seller, even if you're a private individual, you're required to guarantee that at the time of sale the item has no defects other than those described in the listing.
For Apple, a scan is fine too, since they have the serial number.

So I scan the Mediaworld invoice. Actually bought and paid for online via PayPal, but with pickup at the physical store, but of course that shouldn’t change anything.

Sorry if I’m asking you one last question,
How long does the customer have to not accept the product received, and from the seller’s point of view, to avoid problems in the future? I think it also depends on the buying and selling platform.
Thanks

·3 years agoIt depends on the platform and the payment method.
On eBay, 30 days from delivery of the item to the buyer.
With PayPal, 180 days from payment.
With a credit card, one year from payment.
