I already paid VAT, why do I also have to pay the customs duty and "postal fees"?
I’ve already contacted support but it wasn’t very helpful, I bought an item from a UK seller, the price was around €50 but with shipping and INTERNATIONAL VAT (which I paid) it went up to 80; according to the ADM, you don’t have to pay any duty or customs under €150, only the VAT that I paid (handsomely) so I’m wondering how I can solve this problem given that support didn’t do much...
Customs wants me to wait 15 days so I can "be called back" in that time frame my package will go back to the seller and I’ll have lost money and the item.

·2 years ago..... after all, VAT is paid on the total of the item and shipping cost, so there definitely wasn't any double taxation.

·2 years agoThen I don’t understand what kind of "strategy" you adopted, if you’ve already paid (handsomely) the 22% VAT, what does it cost you to pay the extra 3 ~ 6 % for any duty and/or customs fees and/or collection charges by the courier?
Do we want to make it purely a matter of principle?
If customs charges you for it, it’s not like you have many other options.......
If you don’t pick it up, you lose the item and the money, the seller isn’t responsible, eBay washes its hands of it.
Unfortunately international shipping is full of risks and of UNEXPECTED events.
I’m sorry.

OP2 years ago1) The item is being held at the post office. It will stay there for 30 days.
2) It's a bit a matter of principle; by law I shouldn't have to pay that money, and besides I'd end up paying almost €100 for an item worth €50... Honestly, I refuse to pay more than what's due.
3) It's not the first time this has happened, so I was looking for a permanent solution on how to deal with this kind of problem.

OP2 years agoI agree with the third point.
I’d even be willing to pay this extortion if it weren’t for the fact that, having requested a detailed breakdown of the expenses, only €5 are in charges (extortion I’d even be willing to pay, since...)
but I really don’t understand the "€10.93" in customs charges, below a certain threshold you only pay VAT.

The problem is that it doesn't work like that... we can sit here talking about it forever, without, obviously, finding any solution.
Kind regards.

·2 years agoThey’re all old links, some even from 2018, when things have changed recently.
You need to understand that for imports, NOW, there are 4 charges:
The minimum exemption no longer exists... the one you read in the links for €22.
So, it’s simply a matter of being up to date.
Kind regards.

·2 years agoGood morning
If you have already contacted support, it is almost certainly not a double charge, otherwise they would have given you instructions on how to get compensation.
If you refuse to collect the package, the seller is not responsible for this aspect.
So you lose both the item and the money.
So decide accordingly.........
I advise you to accept the package and think about what to do for future international purchases.
Best regards.
