On the third renewal of the auction, the item had not received any bids, I decided to end it early but right after that I was charged the 5% fee. I called support and asked for an explanation, they replied that I had ended the auction when there was a bid.
I replied that I had never received any bid, never any messages, never any notification from anyone; it is not the first time I have sold something, when a bid is made the explicit message arrives, the dashboard also shows it, but in this case it showed zero. Ebay can easily verify what I am writing, at the moment of closing ebay made a phantom, figurative bid appear, submitted by a hypothetical user just registered on the platform with zero feedback, automatically invented by the system as a virtual placeholder wildcard.
Normally when you receive an offer this message appears
"You have received an offer for ... It is valid for 23 hours." "Respond now" "View item" ... "buyer xxxx"
I never received anything like that, ebay can verify what I am writing, ebay denies the evidence and unlawfully takes a percentage. After protesting, ebay continues to deny it, so it can be seen that Ebay knowingly alters sales outcomes by taking sums that are not due.
To be clear, I am an occasional private seller and this has never happened to me, I have been registered on the platform for years.

·1 year agoin short: Ebay has rules that often go unread...... anyway, it is advisable not to cancel auctions before the deadline ( especially if there are less than 12 hours left.... ) to avoid running into these problems.......

you're happy, especially if the proposal is an improvement. ebay knows very well that I have never received this message, the messages are recorded in one's personal area and even if you intentionally delete them ebay would know. In any case, there is the email notice, you can't miss a proposal. ebay denies the evidence and takes the fees without having the right to do so.

·1 year agoEbay is a computerized system and if the system detects that you canceled the auction with a bid in progress, then that's how it is.
As for the rest, I didn't understand whether you're more concerned with trying to prove you're right or whether you're interested in getting a refund of the fees.
Or maybe you want to be right, have the fees reversed, and also get an apology from ebay......

OP1 year agoCall it what you want, offer or proposal, if no notification or message arrives there is no visible indicator that the item has been reserved/proposed/offered to someone.
What I care about is the eBay refund, as small as the amount is, the sale was low too; if eBay resorts to fake users who appeared out of nowhere to pocket ten euros, it means that for years, without knowing it, I had been dealing with a bunch of idiots.

·1 year agoSorry, but when they make you an offer on an auction there is NO email notification at all. That notification, instead, is sent to you when there is a purchase offer, which is very different. So most likely it was an auction, there was a bidder, and you didn't notice. Therefore, ACCORDING TO THE RULES you have to pay the fee.

it's an obvious scam : hidden user, no notice, no count, no app notifications.
Sure, it's not advisable to close an auction, but it's even better not to open one.

·1 year agoThe issue is interesting.
Given that "offer" and "proposal" are NOT the same thing, looking at the last screen you sent about the withdrawal it says CANCELLED_BY_SELLER.
Question: did you by any chance set a block on bids from buyers with 0 feedback?
Because if that were the case, there would be reason to report the "gung-ho" handling of these buyers by Ebay.
Let me explain better:
- a buyer with 0 feedback makes you an offer
- the offer is automatically cancelled by Ebay based on the settings you gave to your seller account
- you close the auction but the offer is still counted for the purposes of applying fees.
If that's the case then it's not very fair handling.
As for offer/proposal notifications: I agree with what pollo_bionico wrote. Individual offers are never notified, only the sale at the end of the auction is notified.
Purchase proposals, which are usually used with "buy it now" listings, are instead of course notified so as to give the seller the option to accept them or not.
If you want to close a "buy it now" listing in the presence of purchase proposals, I think all you need to do is reject them and that's the end of it.
I'll add: everything I wrote refers to the Ebay site, I've never used the app and from hearsay I know there are different and/or missing features, so if you're talking about the app what I wrote might not be true.

·1 year agoOffers and bids are not the same thing.
Bids are made for an auction and are higher. Offers (if the seller accepts them) are made lower than the auction starting price or the sale price.
Maybe it's better if you listen to Heavenwelkin.

I had already answered you exhaustively in the other discussion.
The person replying to you does not have a terminal connected to the eBay platform, so from here we cannot know whether the auction had received a bid and you may have closed it without realizing it; if eBay told you that you canceled the auction with one or more bids, it means there was a bid in your auction, and personally I trust what eBay told you more.
Stating the opposite here on the forum won't help you much.
Try contacting support again and make it clear to them that you had not realized there was an ongoing bid because otherwise you would certainly have canceled the bids first and then closed the auction.
Try this strategy and let us know if you manage to get the 5% fees reversed

OP1 year agoThere were no offers to cancel, nor did I ever receive any; if it had happened, I would have accepted it because I wanted to sell. The imaginary user has an encrypted pseudonym, it’s clear that it’s autogenerated, has no feedback, was registered on eBay shortly before, and if you contact them they don’t reply => because they are not real.
What else is eBay capable of making up? Is my answer clear to you, or do you need drawings?

·1 year agoThe user you call “imaginary” is a real user whose nickname is hidden for privacy reasons.
So you confirm that there is a user who made some offers.
If you want to try to salvage what can be salvaged, I advise you not to keep insisting on this dead-end path but to do what I wrote above.
Contact support and, humbly, apologize for having been inattentive and ask whether they will do you the favor this one time of refunding the fees.

·1 year agoIt’s been a long time since I’ve done auctions, but in my opinion this screenshot of the completed auctions proves nothing because when you cancel an auction, all current bids are automatically canceled.
It also says withdrawals: 1, so someone did make bids on your item, and in the other screenshot it also said it was being watched by 3 bidders.
But I repeat, you need to contact support and talk to them, but don’t get into an argument about who is right and who is wrong.
I simply recommend that you contact them without making a scene and without throwing accusations, just asking whether they will reverse the fees since you didn’t realize there was an active bid when you canceled it.
