Item damaged by the courier
Good morning, I’ve been selling items on eBay for almost a year as a hobby, and recently I sold some glass wall sconces for €200 each, taken down after renovating the house and therefore perfectly working and intact. I packed them with several layers of bubble wrap for moving, both along the edges of the box and around the lamps and in any empty spaces in the box. After receiving them, the buyer sends me a return request telling me that he opened the package in front of the courier, suspicious because of the noise it made, and had it noted on the delivery slip that the package arrived damaged. He forwarded me the photos, and it looks like the package was almost crushed. As I’ve read in various forums and in eBay’s rules, it is up to the seller to refund the buyer even if the damage was not caused by him, and then make a claim with the courier later in order to try to receive compensation. I have already authorized the refund to the buyer, but now I would like to understand how to try to obtain compensation from the courier. I should specify that I purchased the shipping label handled by Bartolini through eBay Packlink, and I did not purchase any additional insurance (as I am skeptical about its actual usefulness, let me know what you think). If anyone knows how to do this, I would be grateful.
Regards, Gianemilio.
