Hi,
I have an eBay account without VAT number:
2025: €3.194 total sales, €2.117 net
2026 up to Jan 20: €1.240 total, €861 net
I do NOT want to open a VAT number right away. Risk from the Revenue Agency?
Can I continue without one? (DAC7, €5k threshold)
2025 voluntary correction cost? ~€315?
Strategy: stop eBay or keep going without collecting?
Bonus if I opened one: 5% tax? 50% INPS? Under 35? Is an exemption possible if I have a full-time salaried job?
Year 1 cost if I opened one: €3.500?
Urgent help.
Thanks,
cizeta1964

·6 months agoI would add some additional considerations:
If the buyer purchases something directly from a seller with its registered office in China, the buyer is responsible for importing the goods and for their compliance with European regulations.
If the buyer purchases from a dropshipper something coming from a Chinese supplier, it is the dropshipper who is responsible for importing the goods and for their compliance with European regulations. The dropshipper will then be required to comply with the regulations of the consumer code (d lgs 206-2005) and therefore will be responsible for the 24-month legal warranty on the item sold, the right of withdrawal, etc..
Finally, if it is not expressly stated in the listing that the material comes from non-EU countries, the dropshipper will have to fully refund the buyer if the latter refuses to pay any customs duties that are not foreseeable due to an incorrect declaration of origin.

·6 months agoWhat I don't understand and can't grasp is how Ebay can allow a professional seller account to be opened without verifying the requirements (VAT number, company registration certificate, etc.), effectively misleading buyers who think they are buying products from a company or at any rate from a professional VAT-registered business

·6 months agoFrom the negative feedback you received, I think I understand that you are already doing dropshipping.
As long as eBay allows it, you can certainly try to sell some item that you don't own, maybe by stretching out the delivery times (eBay offers you up to 40 days) without specifying that you are selling via dropshipping, but you run the risk that someone will complain that the item does not come from Italy or will report that you are violating the site rules, or that eBay will realize you are doing dropshipping and at that point you will certainly get a PERMANENT BAN from the platform on your tax code and you will no longer be able to sell in your name.
That negative feedback you already received doesn't bode well because you weren't even able to organize yourself properly with delivery times and the customer complained that the item came from China and that the delivery times were not respected.
I strongly advise you against taking this path without having all your paperwork in order to do it; then it's up to you.
Best regards.

·6 months agoDropshipping is a sales activity and immediately requires opening a VAT number. There are no limits, neither those of DAC7 nor those of occasional activity.
Since we are talking about real commerce here, without a VAT number it is not even legal to make a transaction.
The risk with the tax agency is up to you to decide; assume that in the event of an inspection you will definitely be in the wrong.
Talk to a consultant who can tell you what the costs are, but I fear that the amount you are talking about only covers social contributions.
