Problem with pre-order purchase
Summary: The thread discusses an issue with a pre-order purchase. Although no details are provided in the content, it seems to be an ongoing conversation among several participants.
Short sad story..
at the end of November I place a preorder (for convenience #OGGETTO1) from a seller, for an item expected to be delivered on March 3, 2023..
at the beginning of December I place another preorder (for convenience #OGGETTO2) from the same seller, for an item with delivery expected in 2023 (release date not yet official).
in March, on the 3rd, the seller says that #OGGETTO1 is delayed due to problems with his supplier. he offers a refund or waiting. honestly I’m not in a hurry and decide to wait..
In April I start to get a bit annoyed, but I still decide to wait..
we get to June 2, which should also be the release date of #OGGETTO2, where I ask for updates and the seller explains that #OGGETTO1 and #OGGETTO2 would arrive together since at this point we’re already there...
June 16, NOTHING has arrived (nada, none, zilch), I contact the seller and explain that if he doesn’t ship me anything by the end of the current week, he should refund both orders and let’s just end it here..
The seller initially shrugs it off, then replies saying "yeah but you know, before it was easy to cancel, now too much time has passed"..
I threaten to file a claim through ebay, reply "yeah you have to wait our timelines", this after 4 months from the availability date of #OGGETTO1 and 1 month from the availability date of #OGGETTO2
I call ebay "yeah but our protection has expired".. Yes, but the item is a preorder, so your "protection" wasn’t applicable by default since in November I bought an item that before March 2 wouldn’t have been sellable anyway, and the other one in December had a release date in June (so 6 months from the preorder).
I proceed with paypal "yeah but our protection has expired".. yes, but if I pay for a preorder item it’s not said I’ll get it tomorrow or the day after.. answer "yeah but you were the one who made the mistake of paying with paypal for an item that arrives after so many days".. ah..
make me understand, if I run into an incompetent seller who can't "meet" what he promises in terms of sales and who does preorders, who the hell am I supposed to turn to for support?

·3 years agoOn eBay, pre-orders beyond 30 days are expressly prohibited. https://www.ebay.it/help/policies/listing-policies/regole-sulla-prevendita?id=4252 There are no protections if you buy using methods that are prohibited on the platform.
The only protection might come from your credit card. If you used it for the payment, you can do a chargeback even within a year of the payment.

·1 year agoBut why does eBay allow these sellers registered as professional sellers to sell pre-orders if it's prohibited????

·1 year agoThe link posted by marioelegio concerns the rules on pre-sales, which as far as I read are at the moment 40 days instead of 30.
eBay cannot check all the listings that are posted every day, which is why there are rules that every buyer should know before purchasing a pre-sale item.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
