Many similar listings or a single one with variants?
Hi everyone, I’ve been selling on eBay for a while, but lately I’ve had a nagging doubt that I haven’t been able to answer even after searching the forum thoroughly.
I often end up listing similar refurbished IT products, and I find the listing with variations very useful because it lets me add additional items with just the photos, without having to create a new one every time. On top of that, I get the advantage that it stays saved in the various historical lists.
However, I’ve recently read that the greater the number of listings, even similar ones, the higher the chance of being found in search, and also that having more listings gives you better visibility and other unspecified advantages. But this means having to create a new listing every time.
In your experience, which path is better to follow?

Looking at your auctions, I can see that you already make wide use of the listing with variations feature, so if I understood your question correctly, you want to know which of the two selling options would perform better during a keyword search.
For example, if you group together several similar but not identical motherboards, you will certainly have to give up including specific initials or codes in the auction title, having only 80 characters available and maybe 20 variations.
If, on the other hand, you create a specific auction for each motherboard, you certainly have the chance to include more specific details in the title, with a greater chance of appearing in the search carried out by the potential buyer.
And anyway, if you use the "create a similar listing" feature, you already have a ready-made auction in which you only need to change the photos and a few details in the title and in the auction text.
And the time it takes to add a variation is practically similar.
Then there is something that buyers HATE when they are searching for item X in the price range around 100 euros and they are shown hundreds of listings with variations from 1 euro to 100 euros, which I usually skip without even stopping to look at them, so in some cases you can lose visibility.

·3 years agoFrom experience managing lots of listings, it’s better to have similar ones (not identical!) but separate... easier to manage and, if needed, modify... especially if you use external management systems.
