Another seller used my photos in their listings
Hello everyone, as per the subject another seller has used photos of two of my items for sale in two of their listings.
I looked in the "report listing" section but I couldn’t find the specific option that matches my problem.
Does anyone have any idea what I can do, or should I just resign myself to it (by now even if I put a watermark on mine, the damage is already done)?
Thanks

If you have the rights to those photos, you can also use this: https://www.ebay.com/sellercenter/ebay-for-business/verified-rights-owner-program#m17-1-tb2

OP3 years agoThanks a lot for the reply, in the meantime I noticed that the listings in question are three, not two.
I reported it, I hope it works, but knowing ebay I'm pessimistic.

OP3 years agoNothing, they already replied to me and wrote that they no longer intervene in situations like these. They never fail to live up to expectations.

·3 years agoIt happened to me too: years ago I reported photos taken of paper items and they asked me to prove that I had the rights; I replied: "but I can’t possibly have rights to the images shown on these items that belong to the companies, at most to the photos, which you can see were taken by me".
They never really got to the bottom of it; only after days did that seller remove them, maybe at someone from support’s suggestion.
Then I had noticed that there was another seller who used (and still uses to this day) photos of another type of item downloaded from subito.it and, after removing the subito logo, posted them on eBay.
I contacted Subito.it and, after pointing out the situation to them, they immediately took down the listings. I didn’t contact eBay afterward because I didn’t really believe they’d be able to do anything.
Your experience confirms to me that unfortunately they’re not very interested in this issue, even though they should be, and a lot, since photos are used to determine whether the item is the one being sold

OP3 years agoThe problem with eBay is that they’re not very interested in pretty much any issues. I know it sounds like a simplistic generalization, but I’ve been “using” eBay since 2004 (with another account that I only use for buying) and, in fact, between 2011 and 2019 I was a professional seller, so I know eBay’s support limitations pretty well. I wanted to see whether, after a few years, things were still the same and I got my confirmation.

·3 years agoWell then, you have more experience than I do, I came much later than you. Anyway, it’s disappointing to get negative confirmation. The hope is that things will improve, but in my opinion there’s little willingness at the top, because there are definitely higher costs to bear, but they need to understand that support is the first thing that has to be structured well and made efficient, otherwise in the long run users lose their way at the first problem and jump ship. Let’s hope for a turnaround in the near future! Bye.

OP3 years agoUnfortunately, support has always been rather lacking; eBay’s luck is that it’s still the only platform where you can really find everything, since it’s used so much by private sellers, even if the various Subito, Vinted, etc. have definitely eaten into their market a bit, but some particular things are only here, there’s nothing you can do about it.
Thanks again for stepping into this discussion, I had drifted away from eBay a bit when I closed the store and then started back up with my sales last year, but since they have the habit of changing the rules (or rather, introducing random new features) twice a year, I decided to turn to the community, which has often helped me more than support.

The solution is quite simple even for someone who isn't familiar with image editing.
Write your nickname on a piece of paper with a marker or with the printer and add it before each photo.
This method is also synonymous with greater reliability of the sale, since this "trend" of using other people's photos (often out of laziness) is quite widespread and many buyers sometimes ask for custom photos to make sure the item is really the one in the photo.
so you kill two birds with one stone 👍
Kind regards.

OP3 years agoYes, yes, actually I use photoshop every day so I could have watermarked them and that’s it. I didn’t want to do that so as not to lose another five minutes making the listings.
