·7 months agoAh yes, right, I confirm the thing about sponsorships. DON'T USE SPONSORSHIPS BECAUSE THEY ARE USELESS. A few days ago, before ending them, I practically had the same number of sales and views with and without sponsorships. And I had them on my whole catalog. DON'T GIVE ANY MORE MONEY TO THIS PLATFORM BECAUSE THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT MAKING YOU SELL, if you don't have a hundred billion feedback behind you, insanely high prices completely at random with the word RARE nearby or you don't have a VAT number, you won't sell jack shit. Forget other tricks to pad their little wallet and get nothing in return, they are useless.
livio_dieci
·11 months agoTrue. Despite the sponsorships, it gets almost zero visits.

·11 months agoFor those two tube radios you put up for sale, sponsoring doesn't help much.
Rather than starting at 1 euro with a reserve price (paid option), I recommend putting a Buy It Now at the market price with an offer to buy.
Best regards.
kamen_rider_geats_mark_ix
·11 months agoThe sponsorships are no use whatsoever, in general. THERE IS NOBODY WATCHING THE ITEMS, because evidently only a few people use the site anymore. Guys...I’ve got ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-NINE views and they keep dropping day by day, and nobody buys anything. Not even when I send offers do they buy. Nothing of anything of anything of anything. Summer’s over, and so are the pointless holiday blowouts. It’s been years since I saw a void like this here, and even the rest of the year wasn’t good at all. It keeps getting worse, worse, worse, and it doesn’t seem to give a damn to anyone whatsoever. They should shut down this wretched site for good and get the hell out of here, it’d be faster. Then if once again there’s the one who gives me shit because I’m complaining, folks...TWO MONTHS WITHOUT SELLING A THING. How much longer am I supposed to keep going like this? three months?six months?a year? it makes no sense at all.

·9 months agoeven I can’t manage to sell anything from mid-September and October... the feedback is there because I took orders in August and the first half of September and now..... absolutely nothing at all. I don’t know what to do

·7 months agoSeptember-October? I went THREE MONTHS without selling a damn thing this summer, I have no idea what the hell happened. But the absolute worst of the worst is a completely empty DECEMBER; last year this month I had made a full FIVE sales in a total span of seventeen days, while this year I’ve made TWO, one at the beginning and one after ten days, with the second one just barely around ten euros. And yet I see people selling crap picked up in Italy for a few euros each, then randomly reposted on foreign eBay sites at 20-30 times their price in Italy, basically on a daily basis, and their sales both abroad and in Italy aren’t suffering. On the contrary, the platform bends over backward for them, probably because it makes more money off them with their three hundred billion feedback than off the poor suckers who just want to make some money to pay in installments for what they buy online (which is what I’m doing with the sales above). I refuse at this point to understand how this site thinks and operates, or how the people who use it think and operate. I’ll just say that I’ve never seen a December this black up here, I have no idea what the hell happened and I refuse to believe it’s only because of Black Friday or crap like that. Other buy-and-sell sites, oh, I tried them right away, I wasn’t selling a damn thing. There were only flies.
kamen_rider_geats_mark_ix
·7 months agoAh yes, and if December was a black hole, I dread to imagine what January will be like, since in January, generally speaking, there was already a void this year—just imagine next year. It gives me chills just thinking about it. Let them say it: they only want to make those with three hundred billion feedback and items with sky-high prices sell, because next to the word RARE there’s the word written nearby when the item is as rare as a drop of water in the middle of the sea, and the others might as well pack up and get out of the way. Either those, or the shops with private VAT numbers. The others don’t exist for them.

·1 year agoall arguments more or less logical, but the real issue in my opinion is search...
How is it possible to put item X up for sale, which is:
and that when someone searches specifically for "item X", it shows up on page 20 of the search results, buried under 1 million new items that are often barely relevant, sometimes not even the right type of item (e.g. books instead of electronic devices) ????
You’ve got your answer for why it doesn’t sell, customers can’t even find it when they search...
heavenwelkin
·1 year agoGood evening surplus4u
For some years now, searches have been handled by algorithms and artificial intelligence that take into account a varied series of data, which can include.
- Market trends
- best-selling items
- most sought-after items
- items that attract the most interest
- sponsored items
- most viewed items
- items with the best price/item ratio
- seller with excellent sales performance
- items with photos, detailed descriptions, and more data about the item for sale
and so on.
Times change; users who sit in front of a computer and do long searches have become a niche habit.
Today, smartphones are mainly used and searches need to be quick and efficient.
The algorithms are programmed to meet this type of habits / needs.
The algorithm makes it easier for you to find what most users buy.
Targeted searches, choosing the relevant categories (instead of the automatic ones decided by the algorithm), maybe browsing 20 or 30 pages, using the various search options, using the most suitable keywords, can still be done.
If this type of search is carried out only by a small niche of people, the problem is not eBay's, which RIGHTLY makes it easier for you to find the items that are potentially the most sellable.
Maybe if you're looking for your Chinese porcelain tea set from the 1950s, you'll need to spend more time on it and use the manual search options.

·1 year agoSorry if I’m butting in.
I don’t get all this obsession with eBay.
If you can’t sell here, you won’t manage anywhere else either.
It’s the market that sucks, not the platform itself.
And as you point out, a lot of users too, who if you’re lucky will leave you an fd willingly once in 5 times (unless you explicitly go begging for it).
Then if you want to sell cheap or give stuff away, you can absolutely do it here too and you’ll find buyers.

·1 year agoReally, I’m not the only one who goes after this platform, which is now rotten and dead. There are lots of people doing it. Don’t you read the comments online? it’s so full of people complaining that nothing gets sold here anymore, I practically see one every day. Anyway, I’m glad to report that we’ve hit rock bottom, FORTY PERCENT FEWER VIEWS on my listings. Soon what will it be, 100%? wouldn’t it be quicker to just shut up shop if it’s come to this? practically no one looks at anything, it’s like a haunted house. Unbelievable. And thank goodness online sales were supposed to be the future blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah. My ass.

·1 year agoAside from complaining about ebay, in the meantime have you put your items up for sale on other platforms too?
If so, let us know how business is going.
The economic situation is not thriving; after the pandemic, food prices have doubled.
Inflation in Italy has eroded purchasing power and spending on non-essential goods has decreased .
The war in Ukraine and the well-known increases in energy costs and basic goods have generated anxiety among consumers, making them less inclined to buy.
The ebay app certainly doesn’t shine when it comes to usability, ease of use, intuitiveness, or functionality, and between glitches, bugs, and search that is confusing and limited to 25 results, the display of descriptions is often hidden, the app is always in beta with interface changes, compatibility problems, crashes, etc and nowadays everything is done via smartphone.
Aside from amazon, in general trust in remote purchasing has been greatly reduced for various reasons, including the scam issue.
More complex and detailed searches are often snubbed.
All these situations lead to an inevitable drop in sales.
kamen_rider_geats_mark_ix
·1 year agoAnd it’s incredible how, through all of this, Italians keep stubbornly being obsessed with vacations and spending billions on them, as well as coming here and spending billions on Apple cell phones rather than on One Piece Gold being resold as if they were who knows what. Vacations where, in line with the whining of those who want people to spend less time on the internet, they’re glued 95% of the time to their phones - that is, on the internet - posting photos of the places where they’re on vacation. Anyway, I don’t care about the other resale sites, I care that this one isn’t working and that no one is doing anything to stop it, first and foremost the people who own the site. All they care about is that you activate these damn sponsorships to rip off your money for nothing, but they produce nothing, just like the paid listings produce nothing. I’m still wondering what I paid those three euros for to go beyond the quota of free listings last month if those listings I paid for are sitting there gathering dust, nobody looks at them nobody buys them nothing at all. But I paid eBay the money, to get absolutely nothing in return. Just imagine if someone paid more than three euros to get air, complete madness.

·1 year agoI mean, in order to hope to sell something on a site that was created so ordinary people could make some money by selling things they have at home (because that’s the reason it was created), I have to start selling 1,000-euro-and-up iPhones too, otherwise I get pushed aside unless I have three hundred billion completed sales and just as many feedback ratings behind me? what is this, Euronics? if you can make sense of it, I’ll compliment you. I can’t make sense of it at all.

·1 year agoYou're not wrong that there’s been a contraction in sales in certain sectors.
But honestly, you’ve been given views and opinions to reflect on.
If I were you, I’d put up fewer items but describe them better.
Detailed photos (one isn’t enough and it’s not enough to just say well preserved) and more accurate descriptions.
As a layperson, I can tell you the prices and conditions seem good, but the product descriptions are fairly brief.
If you believe in your items and think they can sell, make sure you showcase them well.
Without getting too hung up on sponsorships or views

creating desire and need through psychological, cultural, and economic dynamics.
Multinationals invest billions to make the price of a 1200 euro smartphone seem NORMAL when it has been stated that to produce a complete Apple smartphone (they do everything in-house) they spend 10~15 dollars.
These days it's not easy to sell niche products and objects.

You only find the complainers... you'll never find anyone cheering about sales!
So realize that you're selling junk, and therefore it's not very appealing.

kamen_rider_geats_mark_ix
·1 year agoAnd do you realize that you replied to a post that was made to complain that there were zero sales and poor views? Which is exactly what I’m reporting: it’s been a month that I haven’t sold anything and the views keep getting lower. Rather, what’s hair-pulling is that in two years since this post was started, things have only gotten worse, getting worse with the loss of any effectiveness even with sponsored posts, no matter how much they try to push them everywhere or not. Guys, ONE MONTH without selling anything after ONE AND A HALF MONTHS where nothing was sold makes TWO AND A HALF MONTHS OF ZERO SALES, with a tiny sale in between that brought in the grand total of EIGHT EUROS. I don’t know if we realize it.

·1 year agoSince someone is reading this post and liking my comments (which makes me very happy, despite the annoying know-it-alls who say I'm a pain in the ass), a little tip if I may, for anyone reading me: absolutely DO NOT use promotions, even if this platform is trying every possible way to shove the idea down your throat that without promotions you won't sell. You won't sell anyway, and if you do (I made ONE small sale right at the end of the month after putting my entire inventory on promotion, nothing special anyway) the promotions will eat up the tiny bit you managed to scrape together. We're talking about five percent promoted, not some huge thing, and yet there were no real earnings because most of the money went to eBay (7-8 net euros, shocking). Anyway, May was simply monstrous in every respect, the worst month ever out of the already mediocre months before. And I fear June and July won't be much better.
heavenwelkin
·1 year agoPersonally (from my experience) I take it for granted that as a private seller, for the type of items you sell, you have no advantage in using sponsorship.
Anyone interested in your items can find them easily and without much competition or difficulty through a targeted search.
Your items are niche and don't have appeal for the masses, not even if you buy an advertising banner that always appears on the front page.
So in your case, sponsorship is not advantageous.
Personally, I'm not interested in any of the items you have for sale, not even if you gave them to me and paid for the shipping I'd be interested (no offense eh).
But if I type "usb c adapter" I get more than 120,000 results....
If I'm among those offering the best prices, maybe I can get by without sponsoring because users also search by best price, but if I'm part of the mass of sellers offering standard prices I have to sponsor in order to make myself more visible.
Best regards
kamen_rider_geats_mark_ix
·1 year agoBut I’d absolutely say no, I have videogames for sale that are very much in demand on the market. Fallout 3 complete for PC isn’t in demand among collectors? It’s basically the most loved chapter in the saga, maybe even more than the first two. The other videogames too, there’s stuff like Need for Speed Underground 2 or Doom 3 that are very much in demand on the market. And for Need for Speed Underground 2, the sponsorship maybe could have helped with something, since there are about twenty people selling it. But it didn’t help at all, it’s still sitting there, like Fallout 3 for PC. Other stuff like Corto Maltese or the Kenner Batmans, well, I keep seeing them sold and in demand, so I don’t know what made you conclude they aren’t in demand. Corto Maltese, by the way, is so little in demand that it holds the record for the speed at which I sold an item, but last year, not this one. A hardcover volume that took three hours to get moving from when I put it up for sale. So I struggle to believe it isn’t in demand. But even sponsored, the volumes I want to get rid of stay there anyway.
heavenwelkin
·1 year agoPersonally, I don't know much about the material you sell, but if you say they're in demand and you still can't sell them even with the sponsorship.... try lowering the price.....
kamen_rider_geats_mark_ix
·1 year agoMaybe you didn’t read my previous post where I was talking about people selling the exact same stuff as me for five cents less or a dollar less than my price (a dollar vs. a higher price than mine including shipping), right? Or rather, not even that—an offer of 12.50 rejected for the same item sold by another seller at the incredible price of 14.55, that is, five cents less than the price I charge for the same item, which just keeps gathering dust up here as I guess it would gather dust elsewhere (I finally signed up on subito, everything is dead, not even the Mariana Trench is this still). The price has nothing to do with it, five cents doesn’t make a difference except in people’s heads. In any case, this month I think it’ll be worse than the last, and doing worse than a month and a half in which the only thing—with sponsored listings extended to your entire inventory—you sold earned you the incredible profit of 8 euros took some doing. The views are all monstrously down and nothing is moving, apart from the usual lucky ones who manage to sell in other months because evidently this site prefers to stick it up their ass (feel free to censor me, I don’t care) and screw everyone else. I’m done with it. I’m leaving what I put up only out of inertia and laziness but honestly I feel like closing everything down forever, I see no sense of any kind in waiting month after month after month after month for something to move and nothing and nobody buys anything.

·1 year agoHere comes the pain in the ass, ladies and gentlemen. Offer sent last night for an item listed at 15 euros including shipping, offer of thirteen euros. Guy counters my offer with 12 euros (big juicy difference from thirteen, huh), I send back a counteroffer of 12.50 and...attention attention...the offer gets rejected! It makes me want to die laughing just thinking about it. Anyway, lately I’ve started to suspect that more than market saturation, it’s the damn summer holidays that are coming up, that people are keeping their money for that because they’ve got to scratch their balls after already scratching them plenty at Easter. We’re in Italy, as soon as the average Italian feels one degree Celsius above normal the brain already starts heading off toward vacation because genetics tells him to do it and so he funnels all his money there, into the “noblest” art of doing nothing just for the sake of doing nothing. Another plausible explanation, I can’t give one. As for the rest, I still keep seeing people selling junk at high prices, while on my store counteroffers of 12.50 euros on items priced at 15 are rejected.
As for those suggesting other platforms, Vinted is burned, Subito.it refused to let me sign up because it didn’t recognize the mobile number (it wasn’t one of those disposable mobile numbers you find online), I don’t know what else to do. Nothing moves no matter what I do or have done.

·1 year agoI’ve already tried, with Vinted I tried. They banned me two seconds after I posted photos that were mine because they thought they were taken from the internet (they were the ones I used for my listings above, no wonder they were on the internet), too bad they were actually mine. You can’t go on like this. January was terrible, February was terrible, March was awful, April was the only month in which I sold with even a minimum - and I stress a MINIMUM - of profit, you can’t go on like this. FIVE MONTHS of nothing with just ONE exception. But is that how you run a business? if you do something like that in real life and you’re not a rich American living in California, with those kind of numbers you shut down.
sika700
·1 year agoA business??? Shut down???
Do you realize that you're a private individual and that for you sales should only be a hobby?
Don't say that if you don't sell anything you still have to pay contributions, VAT, income tax and the accountant anyway... nobody believes that!
Everything you scrape together is pure profit... so don't complain, because it's all extra... and if you make a living from the sales you do, I'd say it's time to look around.
kamen_rider_geats_mark_ix
·1 year agoHonestly, I’ve been looking around for fifteen years, and there’s no work. Unfortunately, yes, the sporadic sales of second-hand things I have here on this site as a private citizen (I’m not a VAT-registered business and I don’t have any shop behind me, I’m just a private citizen and nothing more) are the only financial support I have, I have no others. I don’t care about IRPEF, taxes, blah blah blah, I care that I’m being asked for money for a service - selling items here - that is not being provided. And the longer we go on, the worse it gets.

·1 year agoBy the way, could someone kindly explain to me how the Americans on YouTube or on Reddit go on and on about being able to make a living from sales on this site if this is how the site (doesn't) work? I've never claimed I could make 1,000 euros a month from it (I repeat, I am NOT a shop, I am NOT a VAT-registered business, and the small number of items I have for sale at low prices wouldn't even allow it; anyway, with the odds and ends I have lying around the house, it would be impossible for me to do something like that) but with things like this it's absolutely unthinkable to be able to live off this site in any way whatsoever. And yet on YouTube or Reddit you read stories about these people making 60,000 dollars a month from it, blah blah blah blah, but what the hell? These people get up in the morning and spout bullshit nonstop just to sell you the video and little else. A thing like that doesn't exist, not with a site that WON'T even sell if you shot it with cannons.

Three weeks and counting without a sale, views even using the trick of relisting items that have been sitting around for ages aren’t working (they’re still ridiculously low), everything is stuck again like an aircraft carrier sunk in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Besides, compliments to this now-dead platform for having the nerve to come ask me for three euros because I went over the number of listings allowed for free. Why the hell are they coming to ask me for money if people literally don’t buy a damn thing no matter how you try to promote your items?! They do it to see whether that item is in demand and at what price it sells.
Then they go ahead and put it up for sale.

·1 year agoYour photos are perfectly fine. My example is meant to highlight that seller’s attitude, trying to figure out the cause of a stall. Observing what happens in someone else’s garden in the same category to understand what attracts the potential interested buyer. For example, I was immediately interested in the two original British New Teen Titans volumes you offer, and, as it happens, there’s a fixed watcher. But even Alan Moore’s Marvel Captain Britain has four likes. Not all watchers buy the item quickly... but patience is needed. Add more information to the description as much as possible. Interesting tidbits and details that aren’t part of the everyday routine. Buyers in the sector love that kind of thing. My acquaintance, who loves everything related to the Marvel universe, tells me that often.
kamen_rider_geats_mark_ix
·1 year agoWas it you who looked? ah ok, I sent the offer to someone who doesn't accept it then 🙂 oh well, so be it. Comics haven't been selling for months and months, I started putting up the video games that had been gathering dust in my attic for so long because I wasn't using them at all, precisely because comics haven't been selling a damn thing lately. They don't interest anyone; the people who leave the follow me usually are people who have not the slightest intention of buying anything. Usually, people who buy look at the item a few times and then buy, they don't follow anything at all.
kamen_rider_geats_mark_ix
·1 year agoin December I even had someone who bought WITHOUT EVEN LOOKING, I don't know how but there was no view recorded, just the purchase. People who follow don't buy a damn thing, just like those who look at the item three billion times.
kamen_rider_geats_mark_ix
·1 year agoYou were talking about Moore's Captain Brittany, another miserable wretch who shows up (item shipped for fifteen euros - shipping included - when it normally costs around 17, so let me call these people what they are), they add the follow and buy but don't actually buy. I would remove the follow function from this site altogether, just as I would remove the cart function. Neither one is worth a damn (people only use the cart as a temporary follow, they don't do anything with it). And sales still do NOT happen. Postalmarket level, with the added aggravation that at least there you could sometimes see girls in lingerie, while here there's not even any visual pleasure. Just boredom waiting for sales that never happen.
kamen_rider_geats_mark_ix
·1 year agoYou, who said the Teen Titans are interesting, do you have any idea why they're just sitting there gathering dust? because it's been since around January that I've had them up for sale, I don't know why they aren't selling even when I send offers like last night (I sent ten percent off). What price should they be at, exactly? three euros? they're like new, issue number one alone in the Italian Panini edition is sold out, and yet NOTHING doing, they won't move. But some crappy little salvageable thing at five euros on here, like tie-ins to shitty mega-events that someone somehow passed off completely at random for fifty, those yes, those are worthy of buying. That rather than Neil Gaiman's Black Orchid sold for five cents less than I'm selling it for is worth buying, whereas if I send an offer of 12.50 for the same thing the offer gets rejected. I don't understand how the hell people approach this site. And if it bothers you that I'm complaining, I don't give a shit, this month I'm completely UP TO MY NECK IN SHIT (you don't need to know why, but I am) precisely because on this site I'm not selling jack shit and so I have every right to complain.

·1 year agoMoonieforlife, once I was sitting at a campsite and watching some foreign girls fiddling with their tent. They joked with the neighbors even though they only knew a few words in their language. With me, though, no. What wasn’t working? Why was I staying on the sidelines? It was that I was an open book, I had little strategy. It was obvious I wanted to socialize with those chicks! Don’t reveal your thoughts on sales here. Where dissatisfaction can be read by anyone. No one must know a seller’s mood. I’m not in a confessional, quite the opposite. Don’t make any more purchase offers to those who are just looking. As was read here some time ago, there are many reasons why someone looks. It could be a competitor, wanting to see if you lower the price of something they also own. They may want to try to knock you out, maybe. You know what they say, right? In love and in business, anything goes. Sort through your best items. Check how many identical ones your competitors have. Focus on the ones very few have. The very ones you have that are not common in the category. Study the personalized price by taking advantage of how uncommon they are. There are sellers who put their item up for sale without realizing there are dozens of exact, identical ones. They just lower the price a bit. But the one who’s looking doesn’t care. What he sees is just a common object offered in every possible version with only a slight difference in price.
And he moves on. Would you buy a pair of shoes that everyone offers in the same model for 1 euro less? Five euros less from another, three and a half euros less from a third seller... come on! And all with written underneath: Original! Beautiful! Great deal! If you buy today, extra 5% discount!! Look at all your items calmly and study a strategy. Based on what happens in that world of interest to you.
But no public thoughts. All quietly! Best wishes.

It’s not like I insulted anyone or said anything criminally relevant, and as long as there aren’t real people’s names or anything criminally relevant, frustration can absolutely be expressed. Don’t worry, frustration does not mean accepting any old bullshit just because. Anyway, the example you gave with those Teen Titans makes no sense, I’m the only one who has them and nobody else does. But they’re just sitting there gathering dust. Why? hell if I know.

·1 year agoTo understand what’s happening, roughly speaking, the seller has two weapons on their side. The first is to go beneath the 'surface' of the sales system and, based on their own item, make small strategic moves. The slightest reactions help fine-tune things. If I sell, for example, women’s lingerie and I wonder why I get so few visits despite the good sale price and good items, it’s not enough to compare myself with other sellers and hear that it’s the same everywhere. Huh! It’s the moment that drags on; who knows what’s going through the buyer’s head! I need to understand whether something isn’t right. I look at my photos and those of others in my category. Hardly any hearts of interest. But... that one, the one who has more than one heart. What does he have that’s different from me? Because I want to look at everything about the other sellers. Something in the appeal, maybe. I discover that all the photos in this category show babes with breasts that look like weather balloons, the buttocks spill out of the lingerie, models of every nationality show terrifying tattoos on their legs. But that seller doesn’t. His photos are sweet, they show well-bred young women who don’t flaunt bloody steaks and attract the viewer’s imagination. He appeals to all possible buyers and has more than one heart for his items. Sales psychology is important. It changes, depending on the types offered. The seller’s second weapon is awareness. He has understood that the marketplace is run by artificial intelligence, by algorithms that start from standard assumptions. Numbers that vary upward or downward daily and are based on preset inputs. They are useless from a personal situation standpoint. They don’t tell you whether the person looking at your listing is from Dallas or from Canicattì. Which would be very convenient for me as a seller. In conclusion, the seller must compare and, if necessary, change. Keeping in mind that today massification dominates every moment. And this also serves as a convenient form of control. A greeting from von

·1 year agoIn fact, that’s the reason I’m not leaving, because both Vinted and Subito don’t have international outlets and since I sell something abroad too (but very rarely compared to the volumes other people above have, we’re talking about a sale every three, four, five months, eh) I have no other way to do it. I tried using Facebook groups for the same reason, like someone had advised me, but on Facebook nobody gives a damn about you. They like your posts and move on. That said, here we are back at square one, nothing doing. People look look look look, they follow the item — so that means that in fact they’re not interested in buying the thing in question — and move on. You send offers, they don’t give a damn, you send messages and they don’t give a damn, I repeat that the point of putting items on a site made to SELL where the SELLING doesn’t actually happen makes no sense. Wouldn’t they be better off turning this piece of junk into an online catalog where you see the prices and do nothing else? you avoid busting your balls spending on Data Center and/or servers, keep only the bare minimum needed for the online catalog, and take away from the poor soul who lists stuff just to get rid of it the illusion that this thing serves any purpose beyond a simple catalog, like an Euronics leaflet could be.

·1 year agoHonestly, I smile when I read that Covid or other negative events are to blame for the overall economy. This is the kind of talk you hear from a physical brick-and-mortar shop that sees its usual traffic drop
We’re online here, folks, there should be traffic from millions of people a day, which eBay should seriously think about reclaiming, technically and economically speaking, but instead it doesn’t...
The truth is that very little traffic passes through here now, really very little, so forget Covid or band-aids to feel better and give yourself an explanation

·1 year agoThe Ebay platform has existed since 1995, in Italy since 2000, and back then anyone who had access to the internet was not an ordinary user.
Today ordinary users are not able to handle a return or a non-compliant product on ebay, so sooner or later they get burned and abandon the platform.
For them, special platforms were created, very simple and intuitive, tailored to the smartphone.
Most of the items you find on ebay can be found elsewhere and usually for most buyers Amazon is more than enough, or Vinted for clothing and Subito for in-person exchanges nearby and sometimes even for remote purchases.
On ebay, international sales of particular items that do not interest the mass of users work well, so you could say that ebay has become a niche marketplace.
I make niche items available, often not found elsewhere and/or that from abroad can only be sold through ebay, so I have not seen such drastic drops in sales.
The items I sell on ebay I could not sell on subito or other marketplaces, so for me ebay is more than fine since it is the only marketplace that gives me international visibility and where foreign buyers trust enough to buy from an Italian (which is not exactly a given).
Kind regards.

·1 year agoI’m pleased to point out once again that we’re back to square one, sales are stalled again. Already last month sales were thinner than usual compared with the already low standards of before (here, if all goes well, we’re looking at about four sales max a month), tomorrow it will have been exactly a month since the last sale made, a sale made for the incredible total price of 15 euros with shipping costs of 2.50 included in the total. I keep listing items, both abroad and here in Italy, and I added more just today (they’re not low prices simply because I see the other sellers keep theirs high too, but they’re lower than theirs though) but of course there won’t be any response. Meanwhile, those who sell items at very high prices keep doing business as if nothing were happening, both in Italy and abroad. And all my feedback is positive from first to last. I don’t know. Anyone who understands anything about it is very smart.

·1 year agoMost sellers on subito wouldn't be able to handle the same sale on eBay, so I think it's right that there are fairly simple platforms that allow anyone to sell items they no longer use and don't want to throw away.
eBay is a more complex platform because it is aligned with the world of distance selling, which is quite varied and complex.
Subito is a very simple and intuitive platform, with quick searches for items nearby, great visibility, perfect for in-person deals with cash payment.
With remote purchases and related electronic payments, if you can find the equivalent on eBay, it's better on eBay because the buyer is truly protected and doesn't have 3 days of pseudo-protection.
Best regards.

·1 year agoTalking about Subito as an alternative sales platform like many other sui generis ones doesn't really make much sense. There had already been discussion about how one approaches it and what the core user base of this site is, which was created mainly for exchanging items among acquaintances, apartment neighbors, small hobbyists who, with no pretensions, want to use the in-person pickup formula with cash payment for small amounts. You make arrangements after messages aimed at getting an extra bit of rounding on figures in the range of 8, 10 euros at most, and you set the meeting place where people often pay with loose change in hand. All of this is within national borders, often in central-northern Italy. Moreover, this small platform, which let's not forget is owned by Ebay, which acquired it years ago, has few categories. Ebay did not want to change its original approach and everything still works as before. The messages that reach the seller are always of this tone : Hello, I'm interested in the Bic two-color ballpoint pen set. If you make it 5 euros instead of 10, I'll buy it. Which area do you live in ? Mariuccia from Garbagnate. If shipping is mentioned, the contact stops instantly. All like that. Honestly...

·1 year agoAfter 15 years I decided to leave ebay. Nothing works anymore, sales have dropped by 80% in the last 6/8 MONTHS and they have obvious problems with result indexing. I have several types of items that I sell on other platforms, all of them (the different types), even if only occasionally. On ebay, on the other hand, it happens that I sell the same item 4 or 5 times in a week and then it doesn’t sell for a month, for example, then the following week I sell nothing and then the week after that I sell another type of item 3 or 4 times (always the same one, but not the same as the item I had sold 4 or 5 times in a row the first week) I am a professional seller with a VAT number and I invoice or issue a fiscal receipt for every sale. I try to keep the seller rating high and I try to solve all problems (often at my own expense). Today I said ENOUGH, there are so many other platforms that, even if only occasionally, let me sell something and the fees are much lower. Even Amazon does not charge a fixed fee for the store like ebay and does not charge listing fees, and the fees are much lower.
After they made these sponsored listings on ebay, they ruined the whole platform. What a disappointment !

·1 year agoIn the last 6 months you received 2 neutral feedbacks WITH PHOTOS from users complaining about the attachment with hot glue.
If you receive unflattering reviews / feedback and/or a low rating you are automatically penalized in searches.
Despite this (it shows that there is little competition in your specific type of items) if I search with the keyword "adattatore parkside batteria" your items appear on the first page of results.
So I would rule out a search visibility problem even if you don't sponsor.
Can I give you some advice?
Avoid selling those adapters attached with hot glue and sell only better products (even if more expensive).
Even though the damage has already been done and since users leave feedback more often when there is something to complain about, it won't be easy to make up for lost ground.
Best regards.

·1 year agoThanks a lot for the advice, yes unfortunately they asked me to glue them and then in the end they left me the feedback, which is why I no longer glue the adapters, but now I’m only focusing on . as you already advised me, on better-made items and only quality ones- For the moment I’m closing all the listings to update their content and price. ·1 year agoI’m sorry, you’ll see that with time things will improve also because ebay has recently introduced a smart feedback mode.
With smart feedback, feedback won’t be seen in chronological order or rather they can only be seen by specifying that you want to see them in that order.
So check your feedback score in the coming days because those negative ones might end up in the background if you correct the mistakes by improving the service.
Best of luck.

·1 year agoAside from the possibility of carrying out a careful strategic investigation into the reasons behind a mediocre
sales result and a poor public response, it is undeniable that there’s a feeling of packing up and moving out
here on the platform. Even on the part of some regular community responder who, if I remember correctly, had announced on these pages the possibility of definitively ending their online sales for various reasons. On the contrary, it seems that for certain categories there is no danger of recession. I indeed read about that seller who asks for permission to become an authorized seller of the sex toys they painstakingly make themselves. And they ask for practical advice from the experts. It seems that this category has a great public response and a loyal following. The category choice is varied: you can buy sado-maso whips with lead weights, just like the scourges used by the Romans to lash Christ's back, underarm bloomers with curious holes in strategic places, fake bras, fingerless gloves studded with sharp spikes for tickling the genitals, and other oddities of a sui generis kind. The obvious question is: is all this parody really arousing? Once hung by the arms with a butcher's hook, do I leap for joy if the neighbor, who is also a fan, bites my buttocks growling? A mystery. In any case, an analysis should be done to understand the many sales mechanisms. Best regards.

·2 years agoDo you know what? that little mouse for NINE HUNDRED EUROS just because he had the figurine upside down was, ladies and gentlemen, ACTUALLY SOLD! While sellers with sought-after comics like Garth Ennis's Hitman (an author I absolutely don't like, so I don't buy it myself) sold for thirty euros total (basically given away) DO NOT SELL FOR ENTIRE MONTHS! I repeat that surely eBay will have made 100 euros from the scammer who on June 5 was buying this senseless crap at the newsstand and on the 6th was putting it back up for sale here, and it will have profited from heavily promoting him everywhere, but someone who sold overhyped crap for nine hundred euros is neither a constant nor the majority of sellers here. Anyway, to have a laugh I put back up some stuff for sale that I want to get rid of; let's see if this time it actually sells or if I have to set it at a minimum of a thousand euros per listing so eBay pays attention to me and I can close a few sales.
kamen_rider_geats_mark_ix
·2 years agolisting with Topolino 3576 sold at the newsstand ON JUNE FIFTH for 900 euros just because the figurine is upside down, twenty-two people watching it vs. comics sold for half the cover price that have two or three people watching them, and in your opinion who do you think the algorithm will make sell or give priority to in views? the guy selling the June fifth tarpaio for NINE HUNDRED EUROS, and if it’s not that then it’s the endless One Piece Golds resold for 500 euros and change from the five/ten euros max they were worth at the start. Of course, by spotlighting just one person who sells you items for 900 or 500 euros that have no reason to be priced that way, your revenue will also go up, but the base that the platform uses isn’t that, it’s the very ordinary guy who sells you the stuff he has at home. But that one is rightly pushed aside, the meaningless 900 or 500 euros take absolute priority over everything and everyone.

How can a simple eBay seller/buyer member understand the dynamics of a corporation / multinational company that works in a rather different way from a family-run sole proprietorship.
The financial results show an increase in 2023 revenue compared to 2022
And eBay shares are also in perfect health.

·2 years agoI couldn't care less about eBay's internal dynamics, what I care about is that nothing at all is selling. Good for them that they've increased revenue; it seems that shutting out the small sellers who should be the heart of this platform in favor of professionals with VAT numbers and billions of items for sale pays off for them. The fact is that everyone says the platform is dead and buried, and that's actually how it is. Lackeys defending it tooth and nail or not.

·2 years agoThe comics category is doing really well, it’s just the loan sharks selling things that came out a couple of weeks ago at ten times the price — like issues of Topolino released a couple of weeks ago that were bought in bulk at the newsstand — who are making sales, while the people who set honest prices (and I’m not just talking about myself; I also see items priced ridiculously by other sellers that people look at and don’t give a damn about for months and months) get left in the dust because evidently the big money for the guys in Palo Alto comes from stuff resold at insane prices, so they’d rather focus on them. Anyway, I don’t have seventy, I have 120 spread across three different continents (I sell in the USA, Australia, and England) and NOBODY BUYS. Apparently, being a loan shark, whether you like it or not, pays off; being honest doesn’t. Assuming, exactly, how many items should you have in order to sell? A billion? With the goal of what, having people swarm around your listing and not even glance at it? It’s a complete waste of time.
vonbalden
·2 years agoIn fact, understanding what the strategies of a multinational platform might be is almost impossible for users, since they are based on returns, short-term innovative tactics and directions, according to a type of 'morality' and behavior that is the one universally recognized in this historical-political moment. Everyone does the same things because otherwise there is the terror of losing ground. But as moonie says, the end user of the system doesn’t care much what the heck the top people have in mind. Unfortunately, we cannot separate things. Because we are a final link in the chain. Everything is in constant change. Even the response to likes in a category. I myself have offered my Marvel comics, from Panini, with zero sales result. I believe there is a reason. Exactly like the legendary Tex Willer comic signed by the unforgettable Galleppini. Since the artist's death in the seventies, the classic stories have been reprinted hundreds of times, then continuing an endless run with other artists who made it possible to carry on forever the adventures of the mythical ranger. Creating a kind of rejection, total indifference that is the result of certain sales policies.
I solved it by almost completely eliminating the category and replacing it with other items. Sometimes you have to understand the type of demand to adjust your aim, as daxsisko indirectly suggests. And as soon as you've adjusted it, something new can pop up. I mean, to sell used can openers you have to declare that you had your first tetanus shot to the European Commission. But that's another story.
kamen_rider_geats_mark_ix
·2 years agoI have that at home; I’m just someone who mostly resells items people want to get rid of because they don’t want them anymore, which is to say what the average eBay user should be. Not the loan shark who sneaks off quietly to the newsstand or toy store and buys comics or action figures by the thousands, then after a short time, with the tacit blessing of the people who sell comics and action figures, comes here, marks up the original price by 200%, and the idiot (I can’t find any other way to describe them) who absolutely wants the item in question pays the amount the loan shark/opportunist asks.

·2 years agoHello everyone,
Indeed, sales have dropped not a little but a lot, and one reason could also be the sponsorships that the Google search engine has drastically changed (many sales also came from there). I sincerely hope things can change in the short term because in this state it becomes really difficult to keep going
kamen_rider_geats_mark_ix
·2 years agoMore than the question of whether to keep going or not, if it keeps going like this the site no longer makes any sense to exist, as I wrote in previous comments it’s at the level of an online catalog where people look at prices and then maybe use them outside of ebay. it’s like a postalmarket, but it doesn’t go any further. Why spend billions to keep a rundown place standing when the place itself, beyond being an online catalog, doesn’t work? Anyway, finally a sale yesterday, but the number of views of my items is terrifying. it’s getting lower and lower. Views inside the site, not from outside.
kamen_rider_geats_mark_ix
·2 years agoAh yes, obviously the three sales from last month come after a whole month of zero sales. One month you sell three things (and heaven forbid you think about selling more than three, absolutely not), one month you don’t sell a damn thing and you have very few views, another month you sell three more things on the dot, and then back to absolute zero again... meh, anyone who can make sense of these fluctuations is good. I’m not expecting to always sell something, but I find very little sense in all this.

New stuff has been put up at the lowest price available for similar lots, no use, people look and look but the buy button, ah no, too much work. Apart from pestering the hell out of people to get cheaper shipping because whinewhinewhine I receive them with standard book mail whinewhinewhine yeah but if I ship them by registered mail there’s a reason, my friend, I don’t do it for fun or to make a profit. ·2 years agoit depends...
multiple reasons can combine, giving rise to a final trend in which the surgical attribution of percentages to individual reasons does not change the final result.
the mirror question is; why doesn't one buy?
without pretending to identify a priority solution among the various causes that explain the lack of interest, there are high total prices (including shipping, payment processing, and VAT if the item is purchased outside the EU), lack of appeal of certain products, preference for in-person purchases where the item can be seen in real life, changes in people's habits and customs that lead them to abandon the idea of owning objects and prefer something else (travel, phone..), taxes, mortgages, reduced purchasing power of families due to inflation, the car radiator that needs replacing or the bathroom pipe that requires the costly intervention of the plumber, which wipes out the purchase of the item, competing sites offering 'identical' items at much lower prices.. Every (potential) buyer has their own story and motivation.
vonbalden
·2 years agoIt depends a lot on what’s being offered in collecting or vintage items. It’s also interesting to note even a minimal response even without an offer, maybe, to understand whether among my items there’s that something...
for example in your case, the Subbuteo collection had observers, in my opinion, in the visit counter. That means that the little soldiers, the hand-painted figurines, and so on are appealing. And probably not the whole peninsula offers them with small price variations. FBI agents, for example, are used to seeing small insignificant movements in a static scenario. I’m not saying one should go to the FBI headquarters in Washington D.C. but the strategy, the persistence on a topic, also concerns the seller. The shrewd seller has been compared to a leopard that daily scans every cm. of its territory. Best regards.

As a test, I put up a few gems, a few rarities for 2 euros, like games or rare magazines that have high prices, from 100 to 200 euros: not even one view. Sure, if during those ten days someone had searched for that particular item, maybe seeing it at 2 euros would have made them bid. The problem is that no one sees the item. I logged in on other computers and did some searches for items I have up for auction, I browsed through all the possible pages, and not a trace of my items! I repeated the process several times, you know, maybe you missed it, but no, there was nothing!!! After a few days, it appeared!!! Only to disappear again!!!
There's something going on, for sure. If it were one customer, fine, but there are a lot of us ...

·2 years agoThe problem with Ebay is just one; there are crazy prices !!!!
I have always bought and sold on Ebay but since Vinted arrived now I practically only buy there, you can find prices that are half of what they are on Ebay, whether because of the commissions that a seller has to pay or something else I don't know, but the truth is that on Ebay you pay more for a used item than for a new one you find on Amazon, that's the reality.
marioelegio
·2 years agoIt’s not a matter of fees.
On Vinted (theoretically reserved for private sellers), the buyer pays the fees, 5% plus a fixed 0.70.
On eBay, the private seller pays 5% plus a fixed 0.35.
So if the prices are more than 5% higher, it only depends on the sellers’ business practices.

·2 years agoPrices are crazy because in the end the policy of “easy” returns gets passed on to the final price paid by the buyer.
On Amazon the prices are even higher than on Ebay because there the return mechanism is even more developed.
If you want to know the “real” prices, go to the hardware store down the street, the supermarket, or some physical shop that also has an online sales site.
The other day I found these gloves at the supermarket near my house for 6,49.
If you decide to buy them online you have to pay something like 18 ~ 20 euros or so.
They are disposable gloves that are very thin and not suitable for any use.
From the reviews, it turns out that users make a ton of returns for nonconformity on this type of item, using the excuse that they tear immediately.
In my opinion it is not right for users to maybe use 10 or 20 pieces for their own convenience and then make a return for nonconformity because the remaining 80 pieces are no longer needed, with the excuse that they are not sturdy and tear right away.
That explains why on many very popular items “there are crazy prices”.
That also explains why nowadays Amazon recycles returns that get passed off to buyers who expect to receive a new item they paid for as new.
It has become an unsustainable situation that ultimately falls on buyers, both because of the prices and because of the returns that are recycled.
Which in turn falls on sellers, because at such high prices it is also hard to sell.
As for Vinted, I don’t think you can find the same items you find on Amazon or Ebay; it seems to me that Vinted specializes in clothing items and related accessories, so a comparison between Vinted vs Amazon / Ebay should only be made for the types of items sold where, as you say, better prices may be found, and that makes sense.
Best regards.
