New rule purchase protection weird.
Summary: 9605pasquale noticed an issue with the purchase protection rule, pointing out that the fees are deducted from sales when offers are accepted. daxsisko confirms that the price already includes the protection, but the fees are not obvious to the buyer. mimmopell1964 expresses frustration with eBay's new policies, criticizing the approach that penalizes sellers. aracnotto explains that the fees have been shifted to buyers, except in the case of offers. clauk_36 shares a similar experience, complaining that the charges appear indirectly as a cost for sellers.
Since this purchase protection rule was introduced, I’ve noticed that if you sell with "Buy It Now" you actually don’t pay fees; I’ve verified this on some sales, but if you get an offer like the one I just had, e.g. a vinyl I’m selling for €45, and the buyer’s offer is €35, Ebay pays me €32.98, deducting €2.02 for purchase protection. I haven’t sold some vinyl records because of this situation. I’m sure that’s how it is, but it would be appreciated to have some other confirmations too, thanks, bye

·2 days agoIf you receive an offer, purchase protection is already included in the amount of the offer, unlike the price set by you where it’s extra. So you’ll receive less than what is offered to you. Ebay, unlike Vinted, doesn’t add the purchase protection fee to the offer, but considers it already included. So it’s a bit of a rip-off if you accept an offer.

·2 days agoThat's how it is and I chatted with Ebay support agents saying that it doesn't make sense to accept offers because I end up losing money since I have to pay the protection fees and they told me no, it's always the buyer who pays them, sure, too bad that then Ebay deducts them from me

·1 week agoUnfortunately eBay is sucking money from us left and right! The commissions they were already taking on sales weren’t enough..... and then what did they introduce on top of what there was before for protection? it’s all the same as before; just a way to take money from buyers too, in addition to the commissions from sellers!!! For every accepted offer, you now have to know that there will be fees that the proposer included in the offer (without knowing it) which in the end are money taken from the (unaware) seller who accepted it, thinking they would net that amount. All of this doesn’t make transactions easier, quite the opposite..... you list an item (for example) at 160e and you find it in the listing at 167,10e! Increased with those annoying cents that confuse even the person who has to buy it!!! By now it’s all legalized theft...

·1 week agoHey, but look, they don’t take the selling fees anymore (from private sellers). Now the full amount is yours; you only have to deduct the shipping costs from it (and that annoying thing of having to pay the percentage also on shipping, which was a cost and not a profit, is gone too). Now the buyer pays the fees, in the form of “buyer protection,” a method used on other platforms that are chipping away at eBay’s market share, and eBay rushed to patch things up by copying what others do. The exception is, precisely, the offer; in that case, since the protection is already included in the final price, it’s up to the seller. To avoid it, either you remove the offer option altogether and that’s that, or you go with a counteroffer to the buyer...

·1 week agoThanks, you replied to me here about the other argument where you replied to me and asked for confirmation. If that’s really the case, great, it’s about time they did something for small sellers .... I take everything back.... and in this case I’ll be the first to lower the price!!!! Thanks a lot, best regards, Mimmo

·1 week ago · EditedI confirm: consider that the buyer sees the total price when they enter the offer form (so the price is already increased by the buyer protection fee) and so what they offer includes the markup (that is, what they actually pay, shipping costs excluded..... ) ;
separate consideration: it is very hard (let’s say almost impossible ....... except for some picky perfectionist....... ) for a buyer to offer you a price with euro cents (for example 37.10 EUR) to "take into account" the buyer protection commission and make you earn the clean 35 EUR (sticking with the example, 35 collected by the seller + 2.1 buyer protection commission = 37.10 )
