I need to return a device that doesn't work
The seller seems willing to accept the return. I've repackaged the device in the same box; now how should I label it? Do I need to send it through a post office? Can I add my shipping costs to the price I paid?

I assume you received an item that does not match the description.
It’s perfectly fine to interact with the seller, explain the problem, and try to reach a mutual agreement, but for eBay the issue is already regulated.
Start here:
https://www.ebay.it/help/buying/returns-refunds/restituisci-un-oggetto-cambio-di-un-rimborso?id=4041
Open the eBay procedure and then follow / carefully stick to the instructions.
For an item not as described, return shipping costs are the seller’s responsibility, and they must provide a return label and attach it in the eBay procedure.
Once the seller has received the item, you will be refunded the amount paid (item + any shipping costs).
Kind regards
