Purchase from Japan

Hello, a month ago I made my first purchase from Japan, the package was supposed to arrive between March 16-30, obviously it didn't arrive and until yesterday, April 14, the only update I had was from Poste Italiane, who when I called told me that the package was still stuck on Italian soil waiting to arrive at customs for inspection. Speaking with eBay customer service they advised me, given the high amount, to proceed with a full refund also because after a certain number of days I would lose eBay's customer guarantee too. Now I would like to ask, to anyone who may have already been through this or buys from abroad more often, about their experience and whether all the time I had to wait without updates is normal. Because if so, later on I might try again. Thanks for any replies
