Buying an item from Japan. Scam and customs.
I bought a Japanese antique item from a user who, after selling it to me, changed the photo of the item in the listing.
When I asked whether the item I bought was the one I had actually seen and not the one they put up later, they didn’t reply.
The package arrives (shipped 10 days after the purchase, they had plenty of time to clear up the misunderstanding) and it wasn’t the item I bought.
I contacted eBay to report it and they told me I could only start a return.
No protection from these scammers, and meanwhile I have to pay the customs fees and no one reimburses me. I’d like to know whether at least this kind of user can be reported (apart from negative feedback).

Mentore2 years agoIt is not possible to change the photo in the listing after the sale.
Even if they had availability of more pieces and even if they changed the photo on the ones still for sale, the original photo must remain on your order summary.
You can easily verify this because listings always have a change history.
If you still think that the item received does not match the description or the photos you see on your summary, ask to make a return for an item not as described and recover at least most of the costs; the return shipping costs will be borne by the seller.

OP2 years agoExactly, in fact the listing showed the wording:
I wonder how eBay can allow these scams without actively intervening. They can clearly see it, but they don't take action against these users. I've already opened the return, but who will refund me the customs duties I had to pay?
