Hello, why is it that even though I paid for the phone I bought, the item still shows as unpaid? It’s asking me to pay by the 25th

and the seller has vanished into thin air

am I an idiot, or once the deal is over is it normal that they stop replying?

Ebay allows auctions... it also allows similar sellers to stay there... but what it doesn't allow is payment outside the platform... so as long as there are users who indulge it, ebay can't do anything about it or control it.

In light of all this, common sense would have taught you that similar sellers only bring trouble.

A piece of advice: the next time you find yourself in similar situations, ask the forum BEFORE doing stupid things... we would definitely have told you to stay away from it.

To be clear: A private seller, with good feedback but who has always sold ties for a few euros, suddenly puts 13 brand-new iPhone 16 Pro units up for auction . Short auction of one week and a message saying he accepts only payment by bank transfer . Under these conditions, only a few gullible people take part in the auctions , which in fact close at ridiculously low prices (well below 50% of market value ). The seller asks for an instant bank transfer , which has the particularity of being irrevocable, and then disappears . Even if we wanted to kid ourselves that it isn't a scam, we're dealing with a seller who won't be able to keep his promises (shipping those phones would cost him several thousand euros out of his own pocket). Given the prices, I would think twice before filing a complaint too, since if the phone then arrived (I don't believe it but you never know), at the very least they could contest the offense of careless purchase. Article 712 of the penal code punishes careless purchase, that is, the conduct of anyone who buys, without verifying its origin, things which, by their quality or by the condition of the person offering them or by the amount of the price , must give rise to suspicion about their unlawful origin . Finally, as I already explained to you, you have to think that there are two victims of the scam: you and eBay. In the second scam, you were an accomplice of the seller. ciao mario
