I have a question
Good morning everyone, a few days ago a user sent me a payment via eBay for an item I had put up for sale, but I then contacted the buyer by email, explaining that the payment methods I accepted in the listing were PayPal or bank transfer. So I would like to refund the customer, who no longer wants to go ahead with the purchase; I have the payment on eBay on hold and I can't reissue the refund. Will the fees be returned to me on the amount paid by the user? Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me

before starting to sell it would have been a good idea to read how payments work.
You can’t accept any other type of payment other than the one offered by eBay, and since you are also a new seller, if you want to issue a refund you will have to do it out of your own pocket and wait for eBay to release your funds for no less than 15 days.
If you haven’t updated your account with a valid IBAN, your funds can never be credited, so if you don’t want to accept eBay’s payment method, it’s best to close the account.

OP2 years agoThat’s what I’ll do soon; it’s nothing short of absurd that a user should have to make an already paid-for item available and not be free to choose which payment methods to accept before shipping an item. eBay makes money off sales and expects the seller, in addition to paying fees, to also put their own goods at risk, with the risk of falling victim to possible scams, where eBay wouldn’t even be able to respond, as has already happened to other users.

OP2 years agoTo tell the truth, I’ve been selling for over 20 years, and for online transactions I use PayPal, which is a safer method than these eBay policies where I would have to ship the item first and then have the payment unlocked after several days (barring unforeseen issues...) while paying fees to a platform that does not offer adequate guarantees to the seller but protects the buyer and makes scams easier, and eBay is full of scammers who use these methods. I only accept PayPal and pay the fees to them, not eBay

OP2 years agoWith PayPal, I get immediate payment into my account before shipping, as it should be and as it works everywhere except on these platforms; the buyer has protection on their payment in case of problems. And the sale is completed in 24/48h.

Look, it works like that with eBay too.... If you set shipping within 3 days, for example, when you become a "regular" seller, eBay transfers the money within 1-2 days
the buyer has a guarantee on their payment in case of problems.
With eBay they have the same, and it's 30 days, after that they can switch to PayPal, and it's 180...
the sale is completed in 24/48h.
It depends, the buyer has 4 days to pay, you take your time to ship, if they then have to open a dispute they can still do it, with the chargeback on their card they even have a year...
