In my long time on eBay (don’t be fooled by the start date of my account, I had others before) I’ve increasingly noticed that, in the “HUNT FOR SUCKERS” practiced by 60% of private sellers (a conservative estimate) on eBay, many of these “hunters” have absolutely no idea what they’re selling or what it’s really worth (see my posts about super 8 and VHS) but rely exclusively on the prices set by other sellers. In this varied universe, you can figure out for yourselves that if at some point some “idiot” lists an item at an absurd price, the “followers” do the same, without realizing the actual value and/or interest the item may have. For several years I’d wanted to do an experiment along these lines, and suddenly the opportunity came up: while rummaging through some old publications, I found an issue of the magazine Duepiù from June 1972, in good condition and with the special feature of a rainbow-colored cover design. Said and done, I take the photos (those who want can see it by looking through my listings, it’s still there anyway, who do you think will buy it), I post the listing with the usual “hot air” chatter (a rare magazine sought after by collectors because of the special cover) and to complete the sale like an “idiot” I add a nice 30 euros to the price. Not surprisingly, after less than 3 days a “follower” shows up with a listing of the same magazine as mine for 35 euros, but I have to say he also added the buy proposal (maybe a glimmer of, lucidity while preparing the listing). EXPERIMENT SUCCESSFUL HURRAY!!!

OP1 year agoIn the meantime I’ve put it back up for sale, not because I hope to sell it, but just to properly update the post; I had paused the sale to make a correction and had forgotten to put it back up for sale.
