How do I resolve an unmentioned duty?
Hello everyone, I bought a camera worth £140 plus €20 shipping and no mention of customs duties. On delivery, the courier asks me to pay €58 in customs duties. If everyone knows that customs duties are paid on values above €150, why doesn’t the seller mention it? And why does eBay wash its hands of it?

But there it was 150 pounds and not 140........
I'm sorry that you didn't like my answer, but as you can clearly read from the replies here too, you are IN THE WRONG.
Best regards.

·5 months agoAre you really saying that or are we on Candid Camera??? "if everyone knows it" ... so you should know - exactly - that above 150 you pay customs duties. What are you surprised about?? I don't see why the seller or eBay should worry about it. Buyers like you are extremely dangerous for sellers.

·5 months agoYou already know that above 150 euros duties are paid, and you also know that duties, VAT and fees are collected by the courier (not by eBay).
140+17 = 157 GBP = 181 euros
Duty: 181 x 4% = 7 euros
VAT: 191 x 22% = 42 euros
Courier fees: 10 euros
Total 58-59 euros.
eBay washes its hands of it because you’re the one who bought something abroad and decided to import it into Italy (distance sales are considered carried out at the seller’s registered office).
eBay could only have been held responsible if the listing did not clearly state that the material came from a non-EU country.
