Content objects to delete on the label
Hello, I would like to ask if it is possible to change or delete the content on the Poste Italiane label. I sell silver and metal costume jewelry. The content says Watches and jewelry. But since you can't trust it because of tampering, believing there might be who knows what items, I wanted to ask if there is a way in the settings to delete the content on the label. With BRT or other couriers they don't write anything. Just the barcode

·3 years agoI confirm that the problem also persists with a Linux version (endeavourOS) with Firefox.
If I enter the search term "scarabeo aprilia" it brings up the default search in the scooter parts and accessories category.
The same thing happens with the search term "bilancia di precisione" it defaults to searching only in the "tools for cooking" category --> kitchen scales.

·3 years agoStrange...
I just tried it on my Windows 10 PC and everything is the same as on Mac, both with freshly updated Firefox and with Edge (I don't use Chrome anywhere).
That is, the default selection always remains "All categories", both before and after pressing the blue "Search" button
Could it be something related to your account preferences? Have you tried logging in without an account?
heavenwelkin
·3 years agoYeah, very strange.....
No, because on the freshly installed browser I’ve never logged in, and I did the search as an unregistered user.
Same thing on Linux.
Let’s wait for someone else to do these tests.

·3 years agoTo be clearer, here’s a brand-new, freshly installed Chrome browser, never logged into.
I do the search by typing "precision scale" and then going to the blue search button.
And this is the result

·3 years agoI can't make head nor tail of it anymore! Now it's doing the same thing to me too, switching to the first category instead of staying on "All" once I press the blue button.
I'm absolutely sure I tried it several times this morning before replying to you.
What did I do in the meantime? While I was looking for a reason, I opened the account preferences and checked just about everywhere. Is it possible that something got activated?
Otherwise I'd be sorry to have wasted your time.
--------
P.S. I just tried again by entering a new search, not the two previous ones you suggested: and this time with David Bowie it stayed on "All categories".
Stranger and stranger.

·3 years agoI noticed that search results are rather "unpredictable" or rather "not exactly reproducible" since they change/vary depending on a whole series of parameters (unknown to us).
As you yourself noticed, out of the blue the search results changed without you doing anything or modifying anything.
The algorithm decides whether "branded clothing" is a search to be done exclusively in the women's clothing category, excluding everything else 😎

·3 years agoP.P.S.
I tried again with David Bowie, and this time by pressing the blue "Search" button the category changed to "Music, CDs and vinyl". A few minutes ago, as I wrote in the previous message, it had stayed on "All categories".
And I'm sure I'm not hallucinating. This was in fact the previous screen with time 16:27:49
ABSURD.

·3 years agoTry just typing "dresses" and see where the algorithm goes with it 😎
Clothing and accessories --> Women --> Clothing --> Dresses 🤣😂
I'm laughing so I don't cry.......

·3 years agoHi heavenwelkin
indeed, what you noticed is very strange; try opening a ticket with technical support ( https://do-commerce.atlassian.net/servicedesk/customer/portals ) and report this anomaly. I had a listing problem in the Informatica -> Ufficio -> Cancelleria section; everything I posted in that category, or my old listings that were updated after 30 days in that same category, if 7/8 hours hadn’t passed they wouldn’t show up anywhere; in the other categories they appeared right away, both new listings and updates to old ones, only in that section and subsection if those fateful 7/8 hours hadn’t passed they wouldn’t show up either on the platform or on the shop homepage; I opened a ticket with technical support and in less than a day they solved the problem for me; give it a try too and let us know.
Best regards

·3 years agoHi arcobaleno2022
I did further tests to see whether the problem was coming from outside or whether it was internal to eBay Italy.
These are the results starting from ebay.co.uk
The search with the keyword "precision balance" works as usual with the default setting on All categories
same thing if I use other search terms such as:
electronic balance
kitchen balance
digital balance
As for ebay.de everything works correctly starting from the category Alle kategorien
Same thing on ebay.es
So the problem seems to be only Italian.
From the link you provided I don't have access, so if someone already has access they can send the report directly.
Anyway, this is very serious and it's not a simple BUG because the algorithm doesn't pick categories at random, but categories relevant to the item, which means it was deliberately programmed that way.
Why this was chosen remains, and will remain, a mystery.
Best regards.

if you write me everything clearly with the various photos attached, I'll open the ticket myself and copy/paste your explanation to technical support.

·3 years agoHi arcobaleno2022
It’s pretty simple to reproduce.
Go to the eBay homepage https://www.ebay.it/
And type, for example, “precision scale” and the algorithm chooses to search exclusively in the category “cooking tools--> kitchen scales” rather than starting from “all categories” as happens on eBay Germany, the UK, Spain.....
If you type, I don’t know.... Aprilia Scarabeo it puts you in the Parts & Accessories category rather than all categories and so on for all the other searches you do.
You can take the photos from my message above, messages number 9 and 11, click on the photo to enlarge it and right-click the mouse to save it as.
Let me know if you manage to save the photos.

·3 years agoI tried with your two examples, "Scarabeo Aprilia" and "Precision Scale". In my case (Safari on Mac) the categories linked to those products do appear, which can be selected, but the default one remains "All categories". For this reason I’ve never had any problems searching for any product. I’m attaching the screenshots.
The same happens with Firefox.
Have you tried clearing the browser cache?
heavenwelkin
·3 years agoGood morning milotemesvar
I did this test: I downloaded the latest portable version of Chrome (I think it was 115), so a clean browser with no plugins or ad filters and nothing else, cache cleared, and the result is always the one I described. I'm on Windows 10.
I don't use a Mac, so I wouldn't know whether these settings have not been enabled on different operating systems.
I should have a Linux live somewhere, in case I'll try .......
Anyway, it doesn't make sense because on eBay in other countries I don't have this problem, I've tried both with Firefox and with Chrome.
If that's the case, let's wait for other feedback.

·3 years agoHere's an even more fitting example regarding a search I was doing.
I was looking for a precision scale that weighed in grams.
In the search I write: "Precision scale"
And what does the algorithm do?
It picks the default category for me: "kitchen scales" with 68 results.
Cutting out sellers that have been sponsored but no longer appear in the default searches with the most used keyword, namely "precision scale"
The majority of users don't go and change the search terms but just take what comes up.
By manually changing the search to "all results", here are just as many MORE THAN RELEVANT items to the search, for a total of 215 results, such as the sponsored red scale.
For months now users have been complaining about a drop in views or even views going to zero.
Could it be that I'm the only one who noticed (very late, by the way, and completely by chance) these algorithms that distort and limit search results???
But by what CRITERIA is it established that a precision scale must necessarily be a kitchen scale?
But can't it be an object scale? A person's scale? A lab scale? A jeweler's scale and so on?
I REPEAT: This is VERY SERIOUS, the examples are easy to understand, there are even pictures, so I hope there is someone who realizes how serious the problem is and takes the trouble to write a couple of lines to the relevant department.
Kind regards.

·3 years agoI did too, when some time ago I sold a fair number of old Russian watches, I had noticed that problem with the theft-risk category, since the DHL label showed "Watches and jewelry". The first few times I opened the PDF of the label with Affinity Designer (which lets you edit PDFs) and manually changed the wording to "Collectibles", and printed the label from there. Then I changed my method.
In fact, if the problem is the item's category, considered risky because the label says "Watches and jewelry", when creating the eBay listing it's possible to choose as the category Collectibles > Miscellaneous collections, without going into the details.
In my opinion, very few people look for the items they want starting from the Category; the vast majority generally search for anything in eBay's search field.
heavenwelkin
·3 years agoIt’s very true that most people don’t search by category and don’t even pay attention to it.
But the algorithm searches or automatically sets a specific category rather than, as happened years ago, searching all items in all categories.
In fact, there are users who complain that their item doesn’t appear in searches..... this is because if you put an item in the "collectibles" category and the algorithm decides that that item should be in watches and jewelry, you don’t show up unless you manually set the search to all categories (something very few people do, accepting whatever the algorithm gives them).
Here’s a vivid example of how algorithms work.
If you search for "malachite necklace" the algorithm only searches in the watches and jewelry category and its subcategories.
Because of this filtering by artificial intelligence, we have 380 results.
If instead we MANUALLY set the search to "all categories" as used to happen in the past, we get 1400 results.
So in FACT there are 1020 users who don’t appear in searches and who will have views close to ZERO 😎
In fact, there are users who for one reason or another choose a different category (but maybe still a relevant one) and can’t see the item on eBay because the algorithm decides that that item should only be found in a specific category.
You could make several examples of items that could fit in more than one different category.
Like the example you gave of the "collectibles" category, where actually a leather strap could be considered vintage or a limited-edition piece.
It’s no coincidence that users complain about ZERO views on their items; this also depends on the fact that if they choose the wrong category or BETTER, if they choose a category not considered by the algorithm, they get cut out.
In my opinion they should put people with a high IQ in charge rather than people who boast this or that skill written on their résumé, because nowadays everyone can graduate, but from the blunders that are being produced at regular intervals I’d say that a more careful selection of candidates is needed, ESPECIALLY those who will then have to work closely with the algorithms, because otherwise you end up with algorithms that are DIFFERENTLY intelligent, just like the people who programmed them 😂🤣
Kind regards.

·3 years agoThanks for the very detailed reply.
It’s been a year now since I stopped selling, and when I reopened the form to list an item I had noticed many changes, which I thought were mostly aesthetic and related to the organization of categories.
What I didn’t know about, though, were these new ranking algorithms that in fact force you to strictly follow category assignment in order to get visibility.

·3 years agoThanks to you for giving me the push for this research (which I “discovered” thanks precisely to your post because I started doing some search tests to see whether that user could actually change category and solve his problem) on a public board.
In my view, this is a rather important issue that deserves a dedicated post.
What I’ve understood is that somewhere these new ideas and solutions are being cooked up and applied directly in the field in a permanent state of experimental version.
Because of that, many of the site’s operating dynamics are NOT DOCUMENTED.
Who knows how many people on eBay Italy are actually aware of this important change in search.
Views have been reset to zero, but stores still have to pay at the end of the month anyway.
Promotions that don’t solve the problem of the sudden drop in views because the issue is that many old listings may not be in the category chosen by the algorithm.
Support staff who, not having understood the problem, suggest promoting listings to improve the situation.....
And so even with promotion you don’t get picked up in searches 😎
In conclusion, I’d advise eBay to fix this SERIOUS problem or at least send an email to all sellers to warn them to list items in the categories predefined by the algorithm.
Even though the BEST solution in my opinion would be to put things back the way they were a few months ago, meaning that search would look through ALL CATEGORIES, because it’s not said that an item must necessarily be in a specific/preset category, since a 1950 Vespa might not be found in the motorcycles and scooters category.
Dear eBay, I’m sending you some images too so maybe you can understand the problem better.
Keyword search: "scooter 50" yields 74 results because the algorithm automatically sets the motorcycles and scooters category
Here, instead, the user selects: All categories and 700,000 results come up.
You are cutting out 699926 results.
Needless to say, these algorithms, or rather the team in charge of programming these algorithms, is causing huge damage.......
If that’s how it is, who knows how the algorithms for all the platform’s other features have been set up.... just thinking about it gives me chills.....
Best regards.

·3 years agoGood question.....
In the end, by the same logic you could change the shipping address.... so I’m not sure whether these changes could then affect any protections on the shipment in case of problems.
In my opinion the courier who delivers is not aware of the contents of the package unless it is clearly written on the label.
If you change the wording of the package contents to something less noticeable but accurate, or if you leave the space blank / empty, in theory there shouldn’t be any kind of problem.
As you said, alternatively you can use BRT, which has more understated labels and fewer personal details shown on the label, or you can use another shipping broker that lets you choose what to include in the description of the package contents.
Best regards.
deejaynick
·3 years agoI assume it was sent through eBay's manager (which automatically fills in the contents based on the sales category).
In that case there is nothing he can do except “manually” remove the label.
Which, incidentally, is not recommended (in fact, best avoided...) and useless because the sorting and delivery staff have all this data “linked” to the shipping code and therefore still “see” it anyway.

OP3 years agoI use the eBay manager. If anything, I'll try directly with Poste without the manager. Or I'll use BRT without the manager. Sometimes the manager gives me BRT, but not always.
Thanks anyway
