STOLEN ITEM FOR SALE ON EBAY
A Leica lens stolen from a friend of mine has been put up for sale on ebay. The seller refuses to meet the buyer, doesn't have a real name, and only wants to ship it. When asked, the seller provided the serial number, so there is certainty that it is indeed the stolen item.
What can be done?

·14 hours agoGOOD MORNING, EXCUSE ME BUT WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR TO GO TO THE POLICE STATION, COMMISSARIAT, CARABINIERI BARRACKS, FINANCIAL POLICE, AND TO SPEED DIRECTLY TO THE POSTAL POLICE DEPARTMENT IN YOUR CITY TO FILE A FORMAL COMPLAINT/CHARGE AGAINST THIS PERSON, ATTACHING ALL THE MATERIAL IN YOUR POSSESSION BUT MAKE PHOTOCOPIES FIRST, THEY USUALLY DON'T DO THEM, OF COURSE KEEP THE ORIGINALS, YOU CAN SHOW THEM BUT IF YOU DON'T HAVE AN AUTHENTICATED CERTIFIED COPY FROM THE COMPETENT AUTHORITIES DO NOT LEAVE THE ORIGINALS. OF COURSE EVERYTHING MUST BE TRUE AND YOU MUST PROVE THE PORTAL'S INACTION AND NEGLIGENCE. UNFORTUNATELY EBAY, WITH ITS INCOMPETENCE AND UNPREPARED STAFF, HAS DEVASTATED MY LIFE AND THAT OF MY LOVED ONES, FRIENDS AND ACQUAINTANCES FROM MORNING TO NIGHT, TO GIVE AN EXAMPLE THERE IS WHO FOUND MONEY IN THEIR CHECKING ACCOUNT WHICH THEY HAD NOT GIVEN OR BEEN INFORMED THAT EBAY COULD SO EASILY TAKE AWAY SUMS OF MONEY NEVER AUTHORIZED BY THE EBAY USER. IF YOU READ HOW IT ALL STARTED YOU MUST BEGIN READING ALL THE COMMENTS FROM MARCH 2026. IT'S COMPLICATED WHEN YOU KNOW YOU ARE RIGHT, BUT THE CLEVER ONES OPERATE ACROSS OFFSHORE TERRITORIES, TAX HAVENS, ETC. ETC. INDUCING YOU TO GIVE UP. WE WILL GO ALL THE WAY TO STRASBOURG. BEST REGARDS AND FIGHT FOR YOUR RIGHTS AND YOUR REASONS. UNITED WE STAND, DIVIDED WE FALL!

·3 months agoDoes your friend have photos, videos, or documentation from before this listing that show that serial number belonged to you?
When the theft happened, did you file a report including the object's serial number?
Keep in mind that a stolen item may have been sold at some flea market like Porta Portese for a cheap price and then resold online.
Maybe the person selling it on eBay doesn't know what's going on; otherwise I don't think they would have provided the serial number if they had stolen it themselves.
If you already filed the theft report with the serial number attached, you don't need a new report from scratch. What you need instead is:
The judicial police officer will note the new information (the item has been located for sale) and update the file. This is enough to get the investigation started.
If you go in person with all the materials printed out (link, screenshots, copy of the old report). It's much more effective than a phone call.
