EU Right to Repair Directive: what professional sellers need to know

If you sell goods to buyers within the EU, you may need to update your repair information and buyer communications to comply with the EU's new right to repair rules. Starting July 31, 2026, when a buyer contacts you about a defective item and asks for a solution, you must offer the choice between repair and replacement. If repair is chosen, the warranty period is extended by 12 months. This applies to all general goods. What you need to do General goods: If you are a professional seller and offer goods to buyers in the EU and a buyer uses their legal rights during the warranty period, you have the following responsibilities: ●      If an item is reported as defective or not as described, you must offer the buyer the choice between repair and replacement; ●      If a buyer chooses repair, the warranty period for the item is extended by another 12 months. You must also inform the buyer of this extension before carrying out the repair. We recommend reviewing and updating your warranty procedures and any published policies so they reflect these changes. Purchases made before July 31, 2026 are not subject to these requirements. Additional requirements for certain products listed in Annex II: Additional requirements may apply to certain products in the categories listed in Annex II of the Directive, including washing machines, washer-dryers, refrigerators, dishwashers, televisions, vacuum cleaners, dryers, welding equipment, smartphones, tablets, cordless phones, servers and storage products, and products that include batteries for light electric vehicles (such as e-bikes, electric scooters, and similar devices). These requirements apply to manufacturers based in the EU. If the manufacturer is located outside the EU, the repair obligation must be taken on by a party within the EU. This will be the manufacturer's authorized representative in the EU or, if there is none, the importer or, if there is no importer, the distributor. For goods listed in Annex II ●      Check the EU ecodesign rules applicable to your products to find out which spare parts, repair information, and services you must offer and how long they must remain available. ●      Offer repair services for the full duration of the repair obligation. ●      Post repair information on eBay, including details on coverage, repair options, and typical prices. You can make this information available in the Comments or seller notes section, in the item description field, and/or in the order confirmation email. Even if the Annex II repair obligations do not apply to you, you may still help buyers by letting them know who to contact for any repairs. Thanks for choosing to sell on eBay.

Update to the Terms of Use for Payment Services

eBay’s rules and services are designed to be clear and easy to use. We are updating the Terms of Use for Payment Services and the changes will take effect on July 8, 2026.   The updated Terms of Use for Payment Services will better describe the payment services offered. We have reworded the terms to clarify and reorganize the existing ones, making them easier to read and understand.   If you do not accept the proposed changes, you can withdraw from these Terms of Use for Payment Services in accordance with Section 10 ("Term, withdrawal, and termination") at any time before July 8, 2026.   Thank you for being part of the eBay Community.

Intermittent technical issues and protections for sellers

We are aware that, starting on Sunday, some users are experiencing intermittent technical issues with some eBay platform features. Thank you for your patience while we work to resolve the issue. eBay will protect your selling performance, by providing: the removal of negative or neutral feedback attributable to the intermittent technical issues the cancellation of cases that negatively affect performance, arising from affected orders (such as cancellations and claims closed without resolution by the seller) There will also be no impact on the metrics related to tracking upload and on-time shipping. If you had an auction ending after April 26 at 9:01 PM (local time) and believe it was affected by the issue, you can cancel the order: in that case we will protect your seller performance and refund the related selling and advertising fees. We know how important it is to be able to rely on a trustworthy marketplace and we thank you for your patience while we work to resolve the situation. Any updates will be posted here.

Bring Sponsored Listings to life with videos!

Online shopping is increasingly centered on visual impact. Videos are one of the most effective ways to help buyers understand what you’re selling, build trust, and increase sales.   That’s why we’re adding video as a new way to showcase items in Priority strategy Promoted Listings . Currently in beta , this new feature marks the first step toward an evolution of advertising on eBay, with more dynamic and engaging formats. We’ll continue improving the experience over time, based on seller feedback and performance analysis.   Why video makes a difference    Videos let buyers see your item in action, quickly understand its strengths, and buy with confidence. With video, you can:  stand out in search results and in prominent placements on eBay; show an item’s appearance, compatibility, or how it works; highlight details that can’t be shown in photos; help buyers purchase with confidence.   How video works    You can use short videos in Priority strategy Promoted Listings. Videos play automatically in eligible placements on eBay sites. If a placement doesn’t support video, the listing image will automatically be shown in the ad.   Getting started is simple:  if your listing already has a video, you can use it in the ad with no further action; otherwise, you can upload a short video when you create or edit a campaign; you can add one 5–60 second video per listing.   There are no changes to how fees are charged. Promoted Listings with video always use cost-per-click fees.    Tips for creating effective videos   You don’t need a professional production team. The most effective videos are often simple and authentic: show your item in the first few seconds; aim to keep it short and under 15 seconds; focus on one key benefit or feature; make sure the video works even with the sound off.    Start simple, then refine the video based on results.   Get started now    If you already use Priority strategy, adding video to your existing campaigns is easy. You can compare performance using the new video-specific metrics, such as view rate and video completion rate, along with results from your existing campaigns.   If you’ve never used ads or Priority strategy, video is a simple way to increase visibility while keeping control of your budget. You only pay when a buyer clicks on your ad, and you can start with just a few listings.   You can add video to listings in Seller Hub or directly to campaigns in Ads Hub.

These requirements also apply to laptops from 28 April 2026.   Watch this video for simple, detailed information on how to create successful listings.   For more information and guidance on the Directive, including details of the products concerned, visit the Seller Hub .   Thank you for being part of the eBay Community

The new guide to regulations for Italian vendors

It can be difficult to keep up to date with all the laws and regulations that apply to selling on eBay, especially because they come from different regulatory bodies. To help you save time and grow on eBay, we’ve created a new rules guide. It will be your go-to resource: ebay.it/norme-vendita . The guide provides: a centralized reference point for key information on regulations; a tool to help you easily identify the laws and regulations that affect your business;  links to instructions on how to comply with the regulations. To get started, enter your location and your shipping destination in the search tool. The regulations that may apply to your case and more information on how to comply with them will be shown. Even though it is not exhaustive at the moment, the guide will be updated regularly.   Shall we get started? Check out the guide   We recommend adding the guide to your favorites so you can quickly refer to it whenever you need it.   As always, thank you for being part of the eBay Community!

Introduction of Credit Notes on Sellers' Fees and VAT

To improve clarity and transparency, starting on October 31, 2025, eBay will begin issuing credit notes for all refunds of fees, charges, and VAT applied  to sellers in the EU. Each credit note will clearly show the credited amounts and references to the original invoice.   What is a credit note? A credit note is a tax document that reduces or cancels an invoice in whole or in part. The credit note confirms that a specific amount — such as a fee, surcharge, or refund — has been credited to your account. Just like your tax invoice, an eBay credit note is an official accounting and tax document. You should keep it for your accounting records and treat it as a separate document that supplements the original invoice. Together, the invoice and the credit note provide a complete record of your transactions, making VAT reconciliation and accounting simpler.   Why this change? This update: Improves transparency and makes it easier to match charges and reversals, Aligns eBay’s invoicing process with market best practices. Our goal is to make invoicing clearer, more transparent, and easier for sellers to manage. How to access your credit notes Starting November 1, 2025, credit notes will be available in the same place as your tax invoices — provided as: PDF summary (for a quick overview), CSV file (for detailed transaction-level information). You can download them from Seller Hub or My eBay: Go to the Payments tab in Seller Hub (or Payments in My eBay), Select Reports, Open the Tax Invoices tab, You’ll see a list of available credit notes next to your monthly invoices, To download, select Download summary or Download details. If you have questions or need assistance, contact our customer service team.
